Plants End of Unit Project Quercus magna arbor candentis Liverworts Name Classification Role in Ecosystem Riella Kingdom:Plantae division:Marchantiophyta class:Marchantiopsida order: Sphaerocarpales family: riellaceae genus: Riella Species http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riella see classification page for species This part Aquatic plant will be in small pools and ponds we will have all over our ecosystem to spice up the water and make it look awesome. Common Liverwort Kingdom: Plantae Division: Marchantiophyta Class: Marchantiopsida Order: Marchantiales Family: Marchantiaceae Genus: Marchantia Species: M. polymorpha This plant rapidly grows after a fire, so that is great for rehabilitation after a fire. Also, it can also be a horticultural weed, which would be good for the business and technology of plant use. Luminous Snakeskin Liverwort Kingdom: Plantae Division: Marchantiophyta Class: Marchantiopsida Order: Marchantiales Family: Conocephalaceae Genus: Conocephalum Species: C. conicum luminosum The purpose of this Liverwort is to shine a light on the subject so we (and other animals) can see when we are walking around Monosolenium tenerum Kingdom: Plantae Phylum: Marchantiophyta Class: Marchantiopsida Order: Marchantiales Family: Monosoleniaceae Genus: Monosolenium It is an exploiter of high levels of nitrogen, if there is too much nitrogen in the soil it will use it so that there is an acceptable amount. It also does this to have local dominance. Plant: The Glowing Tree (this is one of our made up plants) Classification: Angiosperms Kingdom: Plantae Division: Magnoliophyta Class: Magnoliopsida Order: Fagales Role in Ecosystem Because it is bioluminescent, it is a large producer of light. Creates oxygen Has acorns so it can provide food Provides shelter from the rain Does not need much care to upkeep Family: Fagaceae Genus: Quercus Species: Quercus magna arbor candentis Quaking Aspen Kingdom: Plantae Order: Malpighiales Family: Salicaceae Genus: Populus Species: P. tremuloides It’s leaves are food for caterpillars of moths and butterflies. Spider Flower KIngdom: Plantae Order: Brassicales Family: Cleomaceae Genus: Cleome Species: C. hassleriana This plant produces pollen which helps complete the cycle between the bees and the flowers. Intermediate Wheatgrass Kingdom: Plantae Order: Poales Family: Poaceae It is a great source of food for browsing and grazing animals. It is also a great plant for erosion Mosses Name Classification Role in ecosystems Takakia ceratophylla Kingdom: Plantae Provides nice and soft ground so you have comfort while galavanting around our forest. Division: Bryophyta Class: Takakiopsida Order TakakIales Genus: Takakia Species: T ceratophylla Polytrichaceae Kingdom: Plantae Division: Bryophyta It looks like a mini pineapple so we thought all our visitors might like a little eye candy Class: Polytrichopsida Order: polytrichales Family: Polytrichaceae Sphagnopsida Kingdom: Plantae To go along with the other mosses we thought this one would be a nice Division: Bryophyta addition for all our little critters to lay Gymnosperms Name Classification Role in Ecosystem Pine Kingdom: Plantae Division: Spermatophyta Class: Pinopsida Order: Pinales Family: Pinaceae Genus: Pinus L. Pines are mostly used for pine oil and timber. They’re very useful because Pine Trees can live in the harshest of conditions, resist disease and insects, and don’t fall or burn as fast in case of wind or fire. Conifers Kingdom: Plantae Division: Coniferophyta (Pinophyta) Class: Pinopsida Order: Pinales Family: Pinaceae Genus: Larix Conifers help provide food with photosynthesis. They also make a good home for animals that nest in the tree or hide under the branches. The pine needles fall to the floor and make soil. Gnetales Kingdom: Plantae Class: Gnetopsida Order: Gnetales Gnetales can be used for a snack in the heat. Animals are able to find food through this plant, even in very dry times. Also, if we get stuck in our biome without any food, we are able to use this as food. Works Cited "Google Images." Google Images. Web. 7 Jan. 2015. <https://images.google.com/>. "Google Translate."
