七、教學活動
Telling the Chinese Romance!
1. Ask the class about the myths, gods or goddesses they know in Chinese mythology.
2. Then, make sure that the students know the main characters’ English names in the story they are
going to read, i.e. the Jade Emperor (玉皇大帝), the Weaving Maid (織女) and the Cowherd (牛
郎).
3. Distribute a copy of the Appendix to each student, and ask him/her to put those scrambled
sentences in correct sequence. The first few students who make it can get small gifts.
Tips and Suggestions:
1. Small gifts can be prepared by the teacher.
2. If the students are quite competent in English, ask them to form groups of four. Write their own
scripts of the story and act it out in class. However, since the acting-out is time-consuming, it
would be better to have no more than five groups to perform in class. After the performances, the
audience can vote to decide who the best actor/actress and the best supporting actor/actress are.
Again, small gifts can be given to the winners.
Appendix:
The Romance Between the Cowherd and the Weaving Maid
The Weaving Maid was the daughter of the Jade Emperor. _____ → _____ → _____ →

were turned into two stars that could only meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh
month in the Chinese lunar calendar (農曆).
