Target Audience: This activity is designed for healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses and
medical/nursing students.
Activity Goal: The goal of this activity is to promote awareness of the relationship between climate change and
increasing risk of nuclear conflict so that attendees are empowered to educate others and take steps to reverse this trend;
as well as to show how the societal health impacts of global warming can lead to conflict and violence, and, conversely,
to show how a nuclear engagement can escalate climate change dramatically.
Learner Objectives/Outcomes - At the conclusion of the activity, learners will be able to:

Identify ways in which climate change can lead to conflict and violence.

Describe the climate disruption that would follow nuclear war.

List strategies individuals can take to help prevent the health and societal effects of climate change.

Describe what individuals can do to reduce the nuclear threat.

Identify the health consequences of climate change and nuclear war.

Apply scientific expertise to informing policy-makers about the implications of climate change and nuclear war.
This activity is designed to address the following ACGME/ABMS and IOM competencies: Medical/Clinical
Knowledge, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism, Work in interdisciplinary teams.

Physicians: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint providership of Tufts University School of
Medicine (TUSM) and Physicians for Social Responsibility. TUSM is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing
medical education for physicians.
TUSM designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should
claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Nurses: Tufts University School of Medicine Office of Continuing Education is accredited as a provider of continuing
nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
This activity provides 4.25 Contact Hours for nurses.
Requirements for Successful Completion: To receive CE credit/contact hours, participants must sign-in, attend the
activity and complete and submit the activity evaluation provided in syllabus materials. Partial credit/contact hours will
be awarded for attendance of one or more presentations. Certificates/statements of credit will be emailed/mailed within
4-6 weeks after the activity.
