NUCLEAR MEDICINE
About the Division of Nuclear Medicine, Department of Radiology
Nuclear medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center spans all medical specialties to deliver
safe techniques that image body physiology for the diagnosis, monitoring and prevention
of disease. In addition to cutting-edge imaging, the Medical Center offers a full spectrum
of radioiodine therapy protocols for the treatment of hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer.
Our nuclear medicine physicians are also experts in the field of radioimmunotherapy for
lymphoma. We specialize in the following areas:
Advanced Imaging Equipment
NYU Langone Medical Center houses some of the most advanced nuclear medicine
equipment in the world, including best-of-breed SPECT, SPECT and PET/CT scanners.
Cameras are linked by advanced data management systems to allow rapid, accurate
reading and digital report generation. Image data is available to referring physicians over
a digital network that allows for timely patient management.
Nuclear Medicine
NYU Langone Medical Center’s Tisch Hospital offers a wide range of nuclear medicine
services, specializing in a full complement of non-invasive nuclear imaging techniques
designed to diagnose and monitor disease of the neurological, cardiovascular, endocrine,
gastrointestinal, pulmonary, genitourinary and hepatobiliary systems. Specialized blood
volume and lymphedema evaluation protocols are also offered. Advanced dosimetry protocols are used to optimize therapy for patients with thyroid cancer and lymphoma.
PET/CT Scans
PET/CT scans allow for simultaneous imaging of metabolic processes as well as anatomic structures in the body. These advanced scanners have revolutionized the care of cancer
patients and are making great strides in the diagnosis and management of neurological
and cardiac diseases. NYU Langone Medical Center’s nuclear medicine physicians are
fellowship-trained experts in the field of PET/CT.
