Dennis Harris Biography
Dennis Harris started playing the guitar at the age of 12 years old. His passion for the
guitar has led him to play a variety of styles of music, ranging from Country to Mariachi, Rock
to Classical. Understanding his passion for guitar, he decided to go to college, where he obtained
his Masters in Music Education on the Classical Guitar in 2009 from Texas Woman‘s University
in Denton Texas under the direction of Carlo Pezzimenti.
In addition to holding multiple solo and ensemble concerts, he was also one of the
founding members of the TWU Guitar Quartet. In 2008, the quartet was chosen to world premier
Ernesto Garcia de Leon's Fantasia Tropical, a 30+ minute masterpiece consisting of a guitar
quartet, flute, clarinet, and a percussionist. A recording of the event, as well as other guitar
quartet music, has also been recorded, and are currently in production.
Mr. Harris has also had the opportunity to work with and take private lessons from
several world renown musicians to include Ernesto Garcia de Leon, Jorge Caballero (the
youngest musician and the only guitarist to win the prestigious Naumburg International
Competition), John Dearman (member of award winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and
Director of Guitar Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara), and Adam Holzman
(founder of the Guitar Department at the University of Texas at Austin). He has also attended
Masterclasses with guitar masters such as Ricardo Cobo, William Kanengiser, and Hall of Fame
Inductee Pepe Romero.
Mr. Dennis Harris currently teaches private guitar lessons in Odessa Texas on a range of
styles to include Classical Guitar, Rock Guitar, Country, etc. What sets him apart from other
teachers is his ability to incorporate Graduate Level Music Theory broken down and simplified
in a way that even elementary students can understand. In addition to his own studio, Dennis
Harris is also an adjunct Classical Guitar teacher at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin
in Odessa Texas.
