World Geography Pre-AP Example Items
are a
representative set of items for the ACP. Teachers may use this set of items
along with the test blueprint as guides to prepare students for the ACP. On
the last page, the correct answer and content SE is listed. The specific part of
an SE that an Example Item measures is not necessarily the only part of the
SE that is assessed on the ACP. None of these Example Items will appear on
the ACP.
Teachers may provide feedback with the form available on the Assessment
website: assessment.dallasisd.org.

By becoming European Union (EU) members, the Central European nations would
eventually gain full access to European markets. Their citizens would be free to
live and work throughout Western Europe.
As for the European Union, the prospect of a flood of labor from the East raises
irrational fears among Westerners already grumbling about too many
immigrantsAnother big fear [in Central Europe] is that foreigners—by which
most people mean Germans—will buy up their land, which is another basic right
accorded to anybody living within the European Union.
Edmund L. Andrews – New York Times, 1999

The Chinese government began construction of the Three Gorges Dam in 1993 and argues
that the dam will have three positive effects. First, the dam will help control the frequent
flooding of the Chang Jiang River, which causes great damage and loss of life. This is
critical because the Chang Jiang irrigates about half of China’s crops. Second, the dam
will generate huge amounts of electrical power. By some estimates, the dam will produce
about 10 percent of China’s electrical power. Finally, the dam will make it easier for ships
to reach China’s interior. The Chang Jiang carries more than half of the goods moving on
China’s interior waterways. The dam will increase shipping capacity and decrease shipping
costs.
18
—McDougal Littell
