Pre-AP World History Summer Assignment
Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to Pre-AP World History at ECHS@MC! For your summer assignment, I am asking you to do a
series of activities that will assist you in building some fundamental skills and knowledge that will be helpful in
your social studies program at Early College High School. These assignments are meant to lay the foundations
of the course that you will take your freshman year. It introduces you to terminology, geography and skills that
will give you a jumpstart for the year.
For some of you, this may be your first Pre-AP class. Be mindful that a Pre-AP class requires you to stay
focused and work hard. You may have taken a Pre-AP class at the Junior High level, but the Pre-AP program at
ECHS@MC differs slightly. Our goal is to give you a strong foundation and background of world and U.S.
history your freshman and sophomore years in an effort to prepare you to enter into the college classroom in the
eleventh grade. Working hard and maintaining focus will equip you with the necessary tools and skills to feel
comfortable doing college level work.
The purpose of the summer assignment is to allow you to “hit the ground running” when you return to school in
August. World History covers 10,000 years of history—all in less than 180 days of school. It is essential that
you come to class prepared, with the completed assignment and the background information necessary to dive
into the murky world of ancient history—which we will cover in the first couple of units.
The ASSIGNMENT WILL BE DUE WHEN YOU COME TO SUMMER BRIDGE IN EARLY
AUGUST. Late assignments will be penalized according to MISD/ECHS policy. Completing the assignment
will help demonstrate that you are serious about the rigor required to be successful in our program. It is
imperative that you’re ready to begin working hard to accomplish college-level work.
If you have any questions regarding the assignment throughout the summer, please email me at
[email protected].
Best of luck!
