Preliminaries
• SU work concerns essentially preventive maintenance/operation of
alignment proposed either by :
• SU when instabilities are well known,
• LHC Civil engineering works : LSS1/LSS5,
LSS6-R (dump), LSS2/LSS8 (Ti2/Ti8), …..
• LEP and LS1 feedback : S78, S81, S34, S23
• By OP or ABP for machine improvement.

• Tomography before alignment ?
• Vertical and radial smoothing [~ 5 days]
• Tomography after alignment ?

Constraints : minimum co-activity, magnets must be cold (< 100 K), need
to decrease the ventilation speed, no duct, Tomography needed (before /
after) if displacement > 1 mm (JP Tock)

LowBeta (TS3 ?)
LSS1, LSS2, LSS5 and LSS8
• Levelling between SU network (GITL) and lowbeta [0.5 d x 4]
• Foreseen to be done during TS3 (Nominal conditions of the lowbeta
magnets) ….
When : As soon as possible : December 2016 ? January 2017 ?
Constraints : Need to access on L et R side on the same half day, need to
access to Q3 triplets (10 min) under vacuum condition and with helium.

LSS1/LSS5 : LowBeta -> Q6
LSS1 and LSS5 :
• Lowbeta (Q1, Q2, Q3) + MBXW (D1) + MBRC (D2) + MQ (Q5 and Q6) + survey
network (GGPSO, GITL)
• ~ 2 weeks for initial measurements (per LSS)
• Few days for computing
• ~ 2 weeks for alignment (per LSS)
When : January 2017 – High Priority
Constraints : no coactivity during radial measurements (wire / AT40x), no helium
in triplets

• Levelling without ventilation in S78 : 1 week (March / April)
• No ventilation at all and no co-activity (access conditions under discussion)
• Magnets must be cold (< 100 K),

Booster, …), LHC experiments and non- LHC experiments,
3D scan, metrology and fiducialisation, …..
• Most of the field work is done by a Manpower contract under
the supervision of CERN staff
• Activities / planning /workload : 15/11/2016
• Preparation, supervision, coordination, data post processing
and quality checks are done by CERN staff
