Students will create a treasure map using radicals as landmarks. Students must create a list of directions which
describe the radicals as solutions to problems or vice versa. The directions must contain the following:
Types of Problem
1 Sum of radicals
1 Differences of radicals
2 Products of radicals
1 Rationalizing the Denominator
2 Powers of imaginary numbers
1 Sum of complex numbers
1 Difference of complex numbers
2 Product of complex numbers
1 Simplify a complex number in the
denominator (complex conjugate)
Restrictions
Must contain at least 4 terms from list 1
Must contain at least 3 terms from list 1
Use terms in list 2; 1 must include fractions
Choose the denominator from list 3
Choose from list 4
Must contain at least 3 terms from list 5
Must contain at least 2 terms from list 5
Choose from list 5
Choose the denominator from list 5
All problems will be made up of numbers from the lists provided and must follow the guidelines from above.

The map must contain at least 5 bogus landmarks which are not part of the directions to the treasure. The
treasure map can be anywhere and lead the treasure hunter to any treasure (school appropriate!). No late
projects will be accepted. If you do not turn in a project or if you fail the project, then you will be given a
written test as a retest. Per district policy, the most you can earn on a retest is a 70.
