Coordinates, organizes the evaluation, development, implementation, and
day-to-day operations of the Hospital’s Midwifery Program including staff
coordination. Participates in clinical standards; providing education to patients
and clinical examinations/consultations for the Program. Provides full range
of primary health care services for women from adolescence beyond
menopause including provision of primary care, gynecologic and family
planning services, preconception care, care during pregnancy, childbirth and
postpartum period. Provides care to normal newborns during the first 28 days
of life.
* 1. Provides in-house shift coverage performing all related duties within the
scope of midwifery practice in caring for the pregnant patient admitted to
Women & Children’s Health Services. Including but is not limited to, initial
triage encounters, treat and release, monitoring and caring for laboring or
observation patients, attending deliveries, assessing neonate for admission
to wellborn care, rounding on post-partum patients, support of resident and
student experience on labor and delivery, maternity, and the nursery units.
* 2. Practices as an integral interdisciplinary team member in collaboration with
physician and nursing services seeking physician consultation as
appropriate.
* 3. Contributes to the business plans, operating goals, program budget and
staffing levels.
* 4. Performs other population based services, including circumcision.
* 5. Provides patient care in the out-patient setting at multiple sites, as
scheduled.
* 6. Serves as team lead within perinatal services and a role model for teamwork.
* 7. Participates in quality and safety initiatives and other related committees.
* 8. Participates in development of guidelines, policies and procedures.
* 9. On call required.
10. Perform related duties as required.
*ADA Essential Functions
 Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Master’s Degree in Nurse Midwifery
from an accredited midwifery educational program, required
 Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New
York State, required and current licensure as a Nurse Midwife in the
State of New York, required.
 American Midwifery Board Certification, required.
 Has a collaborative practice agreement with a physician and designated
