JOB PURPOSE The jobholder will be undertaking a training programme within the Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (LTHT). The training will be delivered through formal education either in-house and or via external providers, and clinical placements. They will be involved in providing direct and indirect care for patients in support of and supervised by a registered nurse or midwife and where identified as appropriate by the supervising registered nurse or midwife, an assistant practitioner or clinical support worker. It is expected that the apprentice will commit to self-directed study and successfully complete the training programme within the contract period. The jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective care. The jobholder must be 18 years old or over 3. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Education and Training - To participate fully in the training programme for the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Healthcare Support by: i) Attending formal study sessions ii) Be willing to undertake self directed learning ii) Complete all tasks and assignments iii) Apply skills and knowledge to patient care in the clinical area iv) Contribute to regular performance and progress reviews To complete successfully the academic elements of the programme as specified by the employer and the training organisation To complete successfully the clinical competencies related to national occupational standards as specified by the employer and the training organisation. HEALTH AND SAFETY/RISK MANAGEMENT All staff are responsible for working with their colleagues to maintain and improve the quality of services provided to our patients and other service users. This includes complying at all times with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Policies, including Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures, and reporting incidents using the Trust Incident Reporting system. INFECTION CONTROL 4 1960b The jobholder must comply at all times with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Infection Control policies, in particular by practising Universal Infection Control Precautions. Hand hygiene must be performed before and after contact with patients and their environment. SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS i) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequent standing, sitting, walking, kneels and crouches to attend to patient needs. Responding to changes patient condition. Patient Care (e.g. drug administration). Shift working. Moving & handling of patients and equipment on a daily basis: Patients - 10-120kg (with lifting aids). Equipment - medical equipment, specialised mattresses (weight 1-20kg). ii) MENTAL EFFORT: Frequent mental effort/concentration required in relation to responding to and meeting patients nursing care needs (e.g. for 8-12 hour shift).
