UniversitätsKlinikum Heidelberg INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON METASTATIC COLORECTAL CANCER Translating Basic Research into Clinical Practice October 29-30, 2015 Heidelberg, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) KFO 227 UniversitätsKlinikum Heidelberg Greeting Metastatic disease remains a serious obstacle in colorectal cancer treatment. On the other hand, boosted by the advent of novel technologies, the recent years have seen major breakthroughs in our scientific understanding on how genetic alterations, molecular signatures and immune responses affect patterns of metastatic spread. While these insights clearly provide a scientific basis to advance the treatment of this widespread disease, translating them into clinical practice remains a formidable task, necessitating close interaction between basic scientists, translational researchers and clinical oncologists. The International Symposium on Metastatic Colorectal Cancer will bring together high-profile experts and junior researchers from the fields of basic science, translational oncology and clinical oncology to discuss mechanisms behind metastatic colorectal cancer spread, as well as novel therapeutic options to be derived therefrom. Particular focus will be placed on molecular mechanisms of tumor spread, biomarkers indicating colorectal cancer progression, innovative therapeutic targets, and interdisciplinary approaches for personalized treatment. We cordially invite you to join us in the beautiful city of Heidelberg for an inspiring meeting, and to discuss how to translate current basic research insights into novel treatment options for metastatic colorectal cancer.
