PALS Course Objectives
 Identify impending signs and symptoms of respiratory failure, shock
and cardiac arrest in the patient.
 Demonstrate Basic Life Support, Vascular Access, Arrhythmia
Recognition and Management, Cardioversion and Defibrillation,
Advanced Airway Skills.
 Synthesize algorithmic data, using respiratory failure, and shock video
scenarios.
 Assess and evaluate unstable cardiac rhythms, shock, respiratory
failure and their treatment in case scenario.
 Discuss pre-test questions and frequently asked questions.
 Demonstrate course mastery in role play, testing areas, per AHA
guidelines.
 Record Mastery of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support course
through successful completion of written test.
Criteria for Successful Course Completion:
Successful completion for continuing education requires that the
participant attend all components of the course. To obtain a course
completion card, the following additional requirements must be met:
 Achieve a minimum score of 84% or higher on the written
examination.
 Demonstrate appropriate skills and cognitive knowledge during the
practical evaluation stations.
 Demonstrate knowledge and ability to safely use an AED.
For successful completion and receipt of contact hours, the participant
must attend the activity in its entirety and complete the evaluation form.
Who Should Attend?
This course is presented in accordance with the American Heart
Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics and satisfies
issues of physicians, nurses, para-medical personnel, respiratory
therapists, and other healthcare professionals.

Renewal Course
Prerequisite – Mastery of BLS skills is required and BLS skills
will not be taught during the course. A copy of a current BLS
card is requested with registration.
Prerequisite – Current PALS Provider status is required for
registration. If your provider status is expired, you may challenge
a renewal course; however you will not have the option of
remediation. Please send a photocopy of the front and back of
your current Provider card and CPR card when you register.
Credit Awarded
CME
The Driscoll Children’s Hospital is accredited by the Texas
Medical Association to sponsor continuing medical education
for physicians.
The Driscoll Children’s Hospital designates this educational
activity for a maximum of (fourteen) 14 AMA PRA Category 1
Credit(s) TM. Each physician should claim only those credits
he/she actually spent in the activity.
CNE
Driscoll Children’s Hospital is an approved provider of
continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association,
an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing
Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
Driscoll Children's Hospital provides 12.5 contact hours for
completion.

Enrollment is limited. Early registration is encouraged to guarantee
space availability.
Registration deadline is 3 weeks prior to course date.
A $50 processing fee will be made on all cancellations and NO
REFUND will be given after registration deadline.
Please Note:
Your Provider Course Textbook will be mailed to you 3-4 weeks
prior to the course date once payment has been received. Participants
are expected to have read the material before attending the course.
All cancellations must be made/received in writing
within 72 hours prior to the course.

and proficiency in BLS, ACLS and PALS and has developed
instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials
in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship
by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such
a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course
material, do not represent income to the Association.

Note to DCH Employees
Driscoll Employees need to preregister in Chexweb.
The textbook is NOT provided to DCH employees eligible for a
waived fee. A limited number of textbooks are available for loan
from the Center for Professional Development and Practice or
you may purchase a textbook for $40. Purchase of the new
manual is highly encouraged.
