Job Purpose
The Registered Dietitian works extensively with each patient to ensure they are reducing acute
and chronic medical risk through best nutrition practices.
Duties and Responsibilities













Completes a comprehensive nutritional assessment on each patient upon admission.
Prepares individualized meal plans that consider the needs of the patient including:
medical, nutritional, age, cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns.
Complete/update treatment plans and review with individual patient.
Provide weekly individual nutritional counseling for patients and family (as needed).
Provide nutrition education as appropriate for staff.
Coordinate therapeutic/medical dietary orders with the attending physician.
Provides updates on the nutritional status of each patient weekly and as requested.
Completes all required documentation and reports in a timely manner, maintaining
compliance with the policies and procedures of the facility.
Cooperates and communicates with other departments in order to provide the best
patient care.
Demonstrates accountability for the proper use of patients’ protected health information.
Participates in scheduled in-services and other appropriate training activities.
Utilizes supervisory feedback to improve performance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Meal Services
 Coordinate with the Kitchen Manager to ensure that special diet orders (food allergies,
intolerances, medical nutrition therapies, etc) are ordered and implemented clearly.
 Weekly meal eaten with the patients and coordinating therapeutic meal experientials with
the Kitchen Manager when necessary.
Nutrition Education
 Provide weekly nutrition education through lecture or interactive experiential in the
group setting weekly.
 Assess educational need and counsel patients and families as needed.
 Participates in community projects and education as needed.
Performance Improvement
 Identifies and collects performance improvement data, monitors outcomes, and initiates
corrective actions; or brings to the attention of the Executive Nutrition Services Director.
Professional Development
 Maintains registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and continuing
education requirements.
 Develops and implements an individualized plan for professional growth and
development, including participation in professional organizations and activities,
workshops, seminars and staff development programs.
Qualifications





Minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in dietetics or nutrition related field.
Registered to practice by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Commission on Dietetic
Registration.
Two (2) years’ experience in an institutional or healthcare environment.
Knowledge and experience in the field of eating disorders treatment.
Knowledge of basic counseling skills, addictions, and the 12 Step Model.

Working Conditions



Schedule may vary based on the need of the facility.
Travel conditions may become hazardous at times; at which time staff will be notified and
provided with alternate routes.
Noise level may vary depending on facility activities.
Physical Requirements


Must be able to sit for a reasonable length of time.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
