CALL FOR PAPERS
Special Thematic Issue: “Nutritional Triggers to Adaptation and Performance”
The journal Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism (APNM), the 2013 Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology
(CSEP) Conference (with associated sport nutrition symposium; http://www.csep.ca/english/view.asp?x=588), and the
Dietitians of Canada Sport Nutrition Network (http://www.dietitians.ca/) announce a general “CALL FOR PAPERS” for a
special thematic issue of APNM entitled “Nutritional Triggers to Adaptation and Performance”. Papers must be
submitted by December 15th, 2013.
There have been significant advances in sport nutrition research over the last few years, including beta-alanine
supplementation, protein intake recommendations, beetroot juice supplementation, carbohydrate periodization (e.g.
training low), and others. Accordingly, sport nutrition is evolving into a niche, but very important, area of “nutritional physiology”. In many ways, some nutritional interventions can be viewed as being potent “nutritional triggers” for training adaptation and/or sports performance. This new aspect of sport nutrition is the focus of the special issue; the
reviews and original studies will cover cutting-edge advances in this novel field. Several experts have already committed
to writing reviews, including Professor Andrew Jones (Exeter University), on the "Impact of Nitrates and Exercise
Performance"; Dr. Jim Cotter (University of Otago), on the "Impact of Dehydration on Adaptive Training Responses"; Dr.
Greg Cox (Australian Institute of Sport), on "Finding your Individual Fueling and Fluid Sweet Spot"; and Dr. Beth
Mansfield (McGill University), on "Nutrient and Energy Considerations for Optimizing Female Health and Performance".
Reviews and original sport nutrition and performance papers that fit this topical concept can be submitted via APNM’s online submission and peer review system (http://mc06.manuscriptcentral.com/apnm-pubs). Instructions to Authors
are available at http://www.nrcresearchpress.com/page/apnm/authors. The cover letter accompanying the submission
should indicate that the manuscript is intended for the special issue “Nutritional Triggers to Adaptation and Performance”. All submissions will undergo the same rigorous peer review as regular papers.
Questions regarding the suitability of manuscripts can be directed to Dr. Lawrence L. Spriet and Dr. Trent Stellingwerff,
guest editors of the special issue and key organizers of the CSEP symposium on sport nutrition. We look forward to
receiving your submission!
