FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 1, 2008
Cancer Care Centers Foundation aims to assist more uninsured, underinsured cancer patients
with 6th Annual Caring Hearts event April 12th – tickets now on sale.
MELBOURNE, FL – Organizers of the 6th Annual Caring Hearts Benefit hope to raise more than a
quarter of a million dollars to assist uninsured and underinsured cancer patients in Brevard and Indian
River counties with rent, utilities, pain medication and transportation.
“Our goal is to help cancer patients meet their basic needs so that they can focus their energies on their
recovery,” said Debbie Keller, president of the board of directors of the Cancer Care Centers of
Brevard Foundation, Inc., the non-profit organization sponsoring the benefit.
Tickets are on sale now for the event, which will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at
the Indialantic home of Ed & Jeanne André. The benefit includes a live auction of wine and original
art from local artists, a silent auction of unique gifts and sports memorabilia, and a wide array of food
catered by Petty’s of Suntree.
Last year’s Caring Hearts Benefit attracted more than 550 patrons and raised over $250,000 in
donations. Keller wants the event to generate even more donations this year in order for the foundation
to increase the number of cancer patients it can help. “With rising gas prices and higher living
expenses, the dollar is being stretched to the limit in many households these days. Factor in the
additional expenses that go with cancer treatment - most of which are initially paid by the patient since
Disability and Medicaid take several months to get approved - and you have a stressful situation that
can actually impede recovery,” Keller said.
“Our foundation has helped hundreds of patients with the financial and emotional burdens placed on
them during cancer treatments,” said Keller, who also is a cancer survivor. “The Caring Hearts Benefit
is a way that the community can get involve and help their loved ones, neighbors and friends.”
The 6th Annual Caring Hearts Benefit is open to the public. Tickets are $100 per reservation. Call
