Veterinärmedizinische Universität Wien The Vetmeduni Vienna is active in teaching, in research and in the provision of services relating to the safeguarding of animal health in Austria. The work represents a contribution to maintaining the health of the human population and its animal companions as well as producing healthy food. To undertake its work our Department for Department for Farm Animals and Veterinary Public Health is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor of Antibiotic Resistance The incumbent will be a veterinarian who will support the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna in research, teaching and services connected with the monitoring of antibiotics and the development of resistance in the field of veterinary public health. In accordance with the Universities Act and the Austrian Employees Act, the position of a scientific staff member working in research and teaching will be filled by an Assistant Professor with a qualification agreement (following § 27 of the Collective Agreement for University Staff). The position will be assigned to the Department of Farm Animals and Veterinary Public Health and initially limited to five years. After the agreed qualifications have been attained, the position will be made permanent (Associate Professor). Level: Extent of employment: Duration of employment: Deadline for applications: A2 in accordance with § 49 (2) KV 40 hours per week 4 to maximally maximal 5 years (permanent after attainment of the qualifications agreed) 13.06.2013 Duties The successful candidate should strengthen the research on which the Department and the University are focusing. The research profile should include the use of antibiotics in animal medicine, the development of resistance and the recording of mass flows (“bottom up” and “top down” analysis) and should demonstrate a mastery of epidemiological and biometric methods. The incumbent is expected to collaborate with the clinics and with other groups working in the area at the Vetmeduni Vienna, applying interdisciplinary approaches related to human medicine. The teaching responsibilities relate primarily to courses in the study of veterinary medicine. The incumbent will be expected to undertake his/her own independent scientific research and to assume responsibility for giving courses, to participate in administrative responsibilities and to obtain thirdparty funding (acquire projects) as well as to participate in and manage research projects and services. The contract will specify a time period of between 4 and 5 years, within which given qualifications, such as a “Habilitation” (professorial qualifications) in a relevant subject, must be attained. Required training, qualifications and experience Applicants must have completed the doctoral study of veterinary medicine and have veterinary qualifications with a focus on veterinary public health (specialist veterinary surgeon) and must plan to obtain a “Habilitation” (professorial qualifications). The Vetmeduni Vienna is hoping to attract an active researcher in veterinary public health or a related field and who has a national and international reputation. Candidates must be able to demonstrate that they are successful scientists with a proven ability to attract third-party funding (from the FWF, industry of private sources) and that they have teaching experience. A higher salary may be agreed during the contract negotiations. If the agreement on qualifications to be obtained is not concluded by the start of service, the incumbent will initially be appointed at the salary scale B1 in accordance with § 49 (3) b of the Collective Agreement. The monthly salary for this group amounts to € 3,381.70 net (14× per year).
