Convince Your Supervisor Talking Points: Health Care Connect

Health Care Connect is a conference built just for SLPs in the health care setting like
me, so I’ll be getting a much more individualized learning experience.
There are several networking opportunities where I can meet my peers from around the
country and build lasting relationships with people who can continuously offer insight into
my daily work.
When I return, I will be able to share the knowledge I’ve gained with my colleagues on
the topic areas that affect us every day, like adult neurogenics, adult dysphagia, and
pediatric health care issues.
The conference is just 2½ days long, so I won’t miss a great deal of work in order to
attend.
Health Care Connect is co-located with two other conferences, Private Practice Connect
and Schools Connect, so I can attend sessions outside of my normal realm of topic
areas and become more well-rounded for my patients.

I am very interested in attending Health Care Connect, ASHA’s conference designed solely for
SLPs in health care, this July. The conference is being held at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans
in New Orleans, Louisiana, July 7–9, 2017. The conference consists of educational sessions,
learning labs, and networking opportunities that will provide me with relevant and practical tools
to implement immediately when I return. The core topic areas of the conference include adult
neurogenics, adult dysphagia, and pediatric health care issues, which apply to the patients I
serve.
The sessions are led by experts in our field, and cover a wide range of topics that are crucial to
the work we do every day. Some of the sessions I am most interested in attending are:

In order to cut down on conference costs, I can register before May 31 to receive the early bird
rate of $399. There are also two official Health Care Connect hotels that are offering ASHAnegotiated low rates:


Hyatt Regency New Orleans (conference location): $165 per night, plus taxes
Holiday Inn New Orleans Downtown Superdome: $149 per night, plus taxes
Along with my transportation fees, I believe the total cost for the conference would come to
approximately [cost].
The conference takes place over 2½ days, Friday–Sunday. Therefore, I will not need to miss a
great deal of work to attend. Upon my return, I would be happy to share what I’ve learned from
the conference with my colleagues.
