Process Department: Title: 3 Human Resources Job Description Coffee Shop Manager Background: The 1844 Coffee Company is a coffee shop in a central location in Bedford and operates as a commercial venture Monday to Saturday from 7:30 – 5:00, offering high quality coffees & teas and a range of sandwiches & cakes in contemporary surroundings. Job Purpose: You will be responsible for day to day operations of the coffee shop and catering facility including marketing and promotion, staffing and volunteers, resource procurement/ stock control and financial processes, creating an attractive and friendly eating environment and catering provision, developing the business and achieving agreed sales and profit targets. Responsible to: Business Operations Manager Specific Tasks: Line Management • Responsible for the training and line management of staff and volunteers • Create and maintain personnel records and ongoing rotas • Hold regular 1-1s and work reviews • Implement disciplinary procedures where necessary Financial To ensure we achieve budgeted sales and cost targets and enjoy sustained growth. To manage individual and team performance and train and motivate staff to maximise sales opportunities. Immediately inform line manager of any financial issues that arise whilst working. Ensure that cash handling procedures are adhered to. Coffee Shop Operations The role holder is responsible for managing the day‐to‐day coffee shop operation, maintaining high standards and conditions, and fostering a positive environment which provides a consistent, fast, efficient and friendly service ensuring a quality experience for both customers and staff. To develop and champion customer service standards within the coffee shop, ensuring that staff are providing excellent customer service. Developing processes to obtain and respond to customer feedback and managing excellent standards of food preparation and housekeeping. To optimise stock availability and control wastage. Develop and maintain systems to ensure efficient ordering and stock control and manage staff training in stock rotation and food care. Consider seasonal factors and in‐store promotions when ordering stock. Ensure the coffee machine and appliances are in good working order and maintained on a regular basis. To ensure staff are assigned to shift patterns and breaks to maximise efficiency and deliver optimum levels of customer service. Plan staff rotas around operational needs, paying particular attention to peak trading periods ensuring that staffing costs are managed within agreed budgets. Ensure you and all relevant staff comply with all environmental health and health and safety, fire and building regulations and procedures. General To ensure that company health and safety and security procedures are applied within areas of responsibility. Ensure that all company and statutory procedures and requirements are adhered to and that staff induction and training is conducted and recorded effectively, and regularly reviewed and updated. Ensure that health and safety checks are carried out in accordance with statutory requirements and company policy. Safeguard company property against theft, loss or abuse and investigate all reported security issues. Ensure that loss and damage to stock is investigated and minimised. Undertake other appropriate tasks as and when required. To be part of the staff team, develop and maintain constructive relationships with all staff across the Association Person Specification: Experience & Knowledge: Significant experience working within a coffee shop/ hospitality environment Experience of financial management and knowledge of financial procedures and till operation Staff management including planning shifts and rotas Knowledge of health and safety and experience of its application in the hospitality industry Experience in menu planning and design Qualifications: Good all round level of education First Aid Certificate Minimum L2 Food Hygiene Certificate Skills and Abilities: Ability to respond positively to a pressurised environment and adopt a positive approach to problem solving.
