Focus:
The ESCAD Data Migration Analyst is responsible for migrating data required
for the new ESCAD business processes, from the current Ambulance
Tasmania, Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Police CADs to ESCAD.
Primary Duties:
1.
Assist the Business Analyst Stream to identify data from legacy systems
that the ESCAD business processes want/need to be migrated to
ESCAD, this will involve






identify data sources
identify data owners
identify data down to atomic data elements
identify filters/date ranges for the data to be migrated, i.e. incidents
which are structure fires between 01/01/2015 and now
identify what Agency’s/users will be able to access the migrated
data in ESCAD
identify any data security issues/data security classification issues

identify any access controls that may need to be placed upon the
migrated data in ESCAD
2.
Test that data identified for migration to ESCAD, with the assistance of
the Business Analyst Stream, is relevant to ESCAD business requirements
or ESCAD business processes
3.
Assist the Business Analyst Stream to determine if cost effective
alternatives exist to migrating the identified data to ESCAD
4.
Extract identified data from legacy systems



5.
Modify the extracted data from legacy systems into a suitable format
to import into ESCAD



6.
develop/refine SQL scripts to extract the required data from the
legacy systems
use the SQL scripts to extract identified data from legacy systems
cleaning of extracted data to remove duplicates, correct address
information, correct geospatial information and standardise codes
replace legacy system codes with new ESCAD codes
change date/time format to standard ESCAD format
replace address details with GNAP verified address, with Lat/Long
details
Quality assure data that will be loaded into ESCAD



check/confirm data is in correct format
check/confirm codes match ESCAD codes
check/confirm that the modified data still suitable for the ESCAD
business requirement or ESCAD business process that requires it
7.
Prepare the ESCAD environment for the modified data to be loaded
8.
Importing data into the ESCAD environment
9.
Check/confirm that data imported into the ESCAD environment is
correct and accessible
10.
Any other duties as directed by the ESCAD Project Manager
Scope of Work:
Work is of a complex and technical nature specialising in the migration of
data from existing systems into ESCAD.

The exercise of initiative, flexibility and creativity, in meeting complex
operational challenges within the tight ESCAD project timeframe is expected.
Direction and Supervision
The Data Migration Analyst will receive general guidance from the ESCAD
Interface Technical BA Lead but will be expected to work unsupervised for
the majority of the time.
Selection Criteria
1.
Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
including the capacity to prepare high level reports and technical
documentation
2.
Well-developed research and analytical skills
3.
Sound knowledge and proven experience working with relational
database design and SQL
4.
Knowledge and experience with SAP Sybase DBMS, Rocket Universe
DBMS and Microsoft SQL Server DBMS or the ability to quickly acquire it
5.
An ability to work with users with various levels of technical abilities
6.
An ability to work with the multiple stakeholders to identify and
document data migration requirements
7.
An ability to articulate data migration strategies for the project
Qualifications and Experience
Industry experience and tertiary qualifications or certifications specialising in
information technology.
Employees within the ESCAD Project will be required to undertake a criminal
conviction check and a high level security check on a recurrent basis.

Environment and Conditions
The Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management (DPFEM) is an
agency created under the State Service Act 2000. It consists of four
operational services: Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service, State
Emergency Service and Forensic Science Service Tasmania. The operational
services are supported by a range of support functions.
DPFEM strives to provide services that are responsive, socially inclusive and

The working environment is largely office based, however intra-state travel
may be required. During the emergency incidents, the person undertaking
