The periodic table given to you at the start of the unit is a very useful tool. It actually tells us the number of
electrons, protons and neutrons in an atom.
Atomic number -
given to you on the top right hand corner
Mass number -
round off the atomic weight at the bottom
Note that once you have the atomic number you know the number of electrons which is also equal to the
number of protons. In order to find the number of neutrons, you subtract the atomic number from the mass
number.
