PhD student position in molecular genetics of protists City, country Ostrava, Czech Republic Laboratory and Institution information The University of Ostrava is the fastest developing University in Czech Republic. Laboratory of Molecular protozoology at the Life Science Research Centre is focused on molecular biology and functional genomics of Trypanosomatidae. There are two main research directions in the laboratory: i) studies of biodiversity; and ii) analysis of virulent factors in Leishmania infection. Requirements Fluent English, experience in molecular biology and genetics. Basic bio-computing (e.g. genome and transcriptome analysis) and statistics experience are advantageous. Job description Successful candidate is expected to continue the on-going project on characterization of molecular mechanisms determining protein translation in Blastocrithidia. This flagellate possesses a non-canonical nuclear genetic code with UGA reassigned to encode tryptophan, while UAG and UAA used for glutamate encoding as well as for bona fide termination. The molecular basis for the dual interpretation of UAG and UAA codons remains elusive. Genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic analyses will be complemented by functional studies in this protist. This is a collaborative project with the Institute of Parasitology in České Budějovice. Recent publication on the topic www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27593378 How to apply Interested applicants should e-mail a CV and a cover letter explaining their suitability and motivation for the position and previous experience to Dr. Vyacheslav Yurchenko by February 15th, 2017.
