Welcome to the Symposium Dear and distinguished colleagues and friends: Building on the strengths of the three previous symposiums held in 2007, 2009 and 2011, we are honoured to welcome you to the 4th CubaCanada International Heart Symposium, co-sponsored by the St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre of Winnipeg, and the Cuban Cardiology Society. The Cardiology Division from the “V.I.Lenin” Hospital is delighted to organize this meeting. Christopher Columbus first set foot on Cuban soil on the coast of what is now Holguín. There, he made the comment that he may well have thought several times when confronting a virgin world overflowing with beauty and he stated at that spot for the history: “This is the most beautiful land that human eyes have ever seen.” Our main goal is to provide a suitable scientific platform to discuss topics related to Cardiovascular Health and Disease. Cubans, as hosts, will sincerely offer a warm hospitality. Welcome to Holguín, Welcome to Cuba Delfín Rodríguez Leyva, MD, PhD Grant N.
