The goal of this course is to help students to understand the newly
developed technologies in genomics and molecular biology, and to apply
the aforementioned technologies to solve biological questions.
The recent development of genomic technologies, their principles and
applications will be taught in this course. Also, related journal papers will
be assigned for reading, presentation, and discussion. The contents of
course include:
 Brief history of genetics
 Hybridization-based techniques
 PCR-based techniques
 Sequence-based techniques
 Applications in biomedical research:
o Gene expression profiling
o Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), copy number
variation (CNV), loss of heterozygosity (LOH)
o Epigenomics (DNA Methylation & microRNA
o DNA-protein interaction
Be punctual, be concentrated, actively participate in discussion
