Allegato A alla Delibera del Consiglio di Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell’Informazione n. 276 del 7.9.2015 Pubblicato sul sito del dipartimento di Ingegneria dell’Informazione e su euraxess in data 15.09.2015 Scadenza 9 ottobre 2015 Early Stage Researcher position within the MSCA-ITN SYNCHRONICS One position of Early Stage Researcher, (ESR) is available in the group of Professor Giuseppe Barillaro at the Information Engineering Department of the University of Pisa, within the framework of the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Innovative Training Networks (H2020-MSCA-ITN) SYNCHRNONICS (SupramolecularlY eNgineered arCHitectures for optoelectRonics and photONICS). SYNCHRONICS aims to provide training for early stage researchers on synthesis, characterisation and application to photonics of supramolecularly-engineered functional materials to study the nature of the basic physics of excited states in condensed matter, but also for a range of potential applications such as organic amplifiers, switches, lasers, photonically-enhanced biochips. The ESR will work on the fabrication, characterization, and application of photonic crystals for the realization of a novel class of photonically-enhanced biochips integrating supramolecularly-engineered functional materials. We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a strong academic record holding a Master degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science. Experience with micro and nanostructuration of organic and inorganic materials as well as morphological and optical characterization of materials and devices is highly desiderable. Candidates with specific expertise on material micro and nano structuration, photonic crystal structures and devices, microfluidics and optofluidics, sensing and biosensing are particularly encouraged to apply. Good spoken and written English is also required. Job Description and Position Details The ESR appointed at the Information Engineering Department of the University of Pisa will work on fabrication and characterization of photonic crystal structures (1D, 2D, and 3D) and devices incorporating supramolecularly-engineered organic semiconductors for the realization of a novel class of photonically-enhanced biochips. The appointed ESR will have the following duties and responsibilities: to fabricate and characterize photonic structures (1D, 2D, and 3D) and devices incorporating supramolecularly-engineered organic semiconductors; to operate high-resolution conventional lithography tools, such as UV lithography system; to operate, maintain and obtain data from microscopes, such as optical, SEM, AFM, OCT; to operate etching tools, such as chemical, electrochemical, wet and dry; to investigate optical properties of materials and devices (reflection, transmission, absorption, photoluminescence - steady-state, time-resolved, efficiency); to record, analyse, and write up the results of these experiments. The appointed ESR will also carry out other duties that are within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the job position: participation at group meetings, meetings with academic and non-academic collaborators, and in particular progress meetings; secondment to other network nodes as necessary to fulfil the grant obligations; contribution to the drafting and submitting of papers to peer reviewed journals; preparation of progress reports on research for funding bodies as required; contribution to the preparation and drafting of research bids and proposals; contribution to the overall activities of the research team and department as required; contribution to the induction and direction of other research staff and students as requested; responsible for ensuring that equipment is safe and maintained in working order. The research activity will be carried out under the guidance of Prof. Giuseppe Barillaro of the Information Engineering Department of the University of Pisa. The position is full-time for three years. Salary will be calculated according to the rules for Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) in an EU H2020-MSCA-ITN. Benefits include annual leave, additional mobility and family allowance according to the rules for Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) in an EU H2020-MSCA-ITN. The successful candidate will benefit from a wide-ranging training programme featuring local, network-wide, and external activities with many opportunities for travel to the other European partners in the network. The positions are associated with a considerably higher salary than a regular studentship, in addition to pension contributions. For those candidates interested in registering for a PhD course at the University of Pisa, please note that to enroll in such a doctoral programme the candidates will need to submit a supplementary application to the Doctorate School in Information Engineering of the University of Pisa, and satisfy the School requirements. Eligibility Criteria Given that the positions are funded by the European Commission on a H2020-MSCAITN, eligibility restrictions apply. Candidates must be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and not yet have a doctoral degree at the time of the recruitment. Applicants can be of any nationality but must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in ITALY for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the start date of the fellowship. Women and representatives of minorities are especially encouraged to apply. The position complies to suitable rules described in the University of Pisa guidelines for awarding “Assegni di Ricerca” Selection Procedure Candidates will be selected taking into account their scientific curriculum vitae (CV), with special emphasis to expertise specifically related to the work to be carried out at Information Engineering Department of the University of Pisa within SYNCHRONICS. Mandatory requirements are: Master Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or related fields; Significant background in Engineering, or Material Science, or Physics, or Physical chemistry, or Chemistry; Fluency and clarity in spoken English, Good written English. Candidates with, experience in morphological and optical characterization of materials and devices; in micro and nanostructuration of organic and inorganic materials; in advanced lithographic, etching and deposition techniques, as well as strong “can do” attitude complemented by attention to details, and excitement for challenging problems are encouraged to apply. Candidates will be preliminary shortlisted on the basis of CV screening, then top candidates will be interviewed by a Local Selection Committee at the Information Engineering Department of the University of Pisa. Interviews may take place via videoconference if needed and will take place on October 22, 2015. The final assessment of ranking and selection made by the Local Selection Committee will be done by Recruitment Commission of SYNCHRONICS, after carefully analyzing the recruitment procedure, candidate applications, and minutes of the Local Selection Committee. How to Apply To apply for the ESR position within the Synchronics project at the Information Engineering Department of the University of Pisa, candidates must send an email to [email protected] with subject “ESR position – Synchronics at UNIPI”. Messages without this subject will be directly discarded. The deadline for candidature submission is October 9, 2015. The application must contain, as email attachment: 1) the detailed scientific curriculum vitae of the candidates specifying her/his expertise, the fulfilment of the eligibility criteria, her/his past experience and background, and the scientific production 2) a scanned copy of a valid identity document (e.g. passport) Candidates may also optionally include one or more letters of reference.
