Frequently Asked Questions
TheraSlim™
What is TheraSlim™?
TheraSlim™ is a dietary supplement containing a unique natural botanical extract that helps to safely
neutralize calories from starchy foods and is a valuable addition to a healthy weight management program.
What is the active ingredient in TheraSlim™?
Phase 2® (formerly Phaseolamin 2250™), the active ingredient in TheraSlim™, is a concentrated extract
manufactured through a proprietary process from non-GMO white kidney beans. Phase 2® is a standardized,
all-natural, non-stimulant starch-neutralizer and is the first starch neutralizing product proven to be effective
in human studies.
How does TheraSlim™ work?
During the digestive process, the body converts complex carbohydrates, found in starchy foods such as
breads, potatoes, pasta, and rice, into sugar. This is accomplished by breaking down the carbohydrate
molecule with alpha amylase, an enzyme produced in the pancreas and, to a lesser extent, in the saliva. The
resultant sugar molecules are either burned off through exercise, or stored as fat for future use. Unfortunately,
inactivity means that the stored fat accumulates over time. The result is weight gain. The active ingredient in
TheraSlim™ “neutralizes” the digestive enzyme alpha amylase before it can convert starch into sugar and
then into fat. Essentially, it allows carbohydrates to pass unchanged through the digestive tract, thus reducing
the amount of calories absorbed from this source.
Are there any studies showing that TheraSlim™ works?
Testing by an independent laboratory utilizing a modified USP test method in a controlled test tube experiment,
showed that Phase 2® neutralizes 2,250 starch calories per gram – equivalent to over one pound of pasta.
Phase 2® survives undiluted gastric and intestinal solutions thus preserving its action on alpha amylase in the
intestinal tract. Mayo Clinic studies of a similar extract to Phase 2® demonstrated efficacy and safety in animals
with a clear mechanism of action. Human studies have shown that Phase 2® can block up to approximately 57
to 85% of the calories derived from complex carbohydrates.
Are there any human weight loss studies with TheraSlim™?
One study on 60 healthy human subjects, male and female, aged 20-45 years, who were 12 to 33 pounds
overweight, showed that 500 mg of Phase 2® taken before a high starch meal produced an average weight
loss of 6.5 pounds after 30 days with a 11.63% reduction of fat body mass, preservation of lean muscle
mass, and a 3.44% reduction of waistline, a 1.39% reduction of hips circumference, and a 1.44% reduction
of thigh circumference. A second study at Northridge Hospital in Los Angeles on 50 healthy overweight
subjects consuming 1,500 mg of Phase 2® with a starch-rich meal, lost 129% more weight compared to placebo
at the end of the 8 week study. Waist circumference was 36% more reduced and energy levels 27% higher in
individuals taking Phase 2®. No adverse side effects were reported in either study. Additional clinical studies
are currently underway to determine the long-term benefit of Phase 2® after 3 to 12 months of use.
What is the recommended dose?
It is recommended that individuals take one to two capsules of TheraSlim™ with each starch-rich meal.
When is the best time to take TheraSlim™?
TheraSlim™ should be taken with meals. Although TheraSlim™ works best when taken with a meal containing
starchy foods such as pasta, bread, crackers, rice, potatoes, and baked goods, it can be taken with any meal if
desired.
How much weight can you expect to lose per week with TheraSlim™?
Based on two independent double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical studies on 110 human subjects, male
and female, individuals can expect to lose an average of 0.75 to 1.5 pounds per week when taking 500 to
1,500 mg of Phase 2® either before or with each starch-rich meal. One significant benefit is that the weight
loss comes from the body’s fat stores with lean muscle mass being preserved. Individuals also show modest
reduction in waist measurements and often report an increase in perceived energy level.
Are there any negative side effects of TheraSlim™?
Few, if any, side effects have been observed – even at high doses. There have been a few reports of
flatulence likely related to the increased fiber content in the lower colon representing the undigested
carbohydrates. The addition of fennel seed powder in TheraSlim™ is a natural way to reduce these
occasional gastrointestinal events. There are no known interactions of Phase 2® with any medications.
How does TheraSlim™ affect the digestion of other food components?
Phase 2® does not interfere with the normal digestion of proteins or fats nor does it block the absorption of
vitamins, minerals, amino acids, or essential fatty acids. It selectively “neutralizes” the action of alpha amylase
which is specific for the digestion of carbohydrates.
What affect does TheraSlim™ have when desserts or other sweets are eaten?
TheraSlim™ will only act on the complex carbohydrate portion of these foods, not the sugar content.
Although there is some starch in cakes, cookies, pie crust, and other baked items from their flour content,
the sugar calories from these foods will still be available for absorption.
Who should take TheraSlim™?
TheraSlim™ can be safely taken by all individuals wishing to achieve a more optimal body weight. When
added to a program of diet and moderate exercise, TheraSlim™ can be expected to produce more significant
weight loss benefits in individuals who are significantly overweight than in those wishing to achieve minimal
weight loss. However, TheraSlim™ may be an important adjunct to the maintenance of optimal body weight.
What effect does TheraSlim™ have on blood sugar levels?
Studies with Phase 2® on healthy individuals have shown no adverse effect on resting blood glucose levels. By
preventing the conversion of complex carbohydrates into glucose, Phase 2® reduces the amount of glucose
available for absorption following a carbohydrate-rich meal, thus helping to avoid excessive blood sugar levels.
Have any safety or toxicity studies been performed on TheraSlim™?
An independent toxicity study on an earlier version of the Phase 2® extract showed that there were no
impairments of health or organ pathologies observed in test animals consuming as much as 50% of their diet
from white bean extract. Further, the treated animals were characterized by lower average body weights
compared to the placebo controls even though the treated animals consumed significantly more food. This
suggests an effective inhibition of weight gain.
Are any diet changes recommended for individuals taking TheraSlim™?
For best results, it is recommended that individuals adopt a more balanced diet and participate in regular
exercise such as walking for 20-30 minutes three days each week. With TheraSlim™, individuals can
continue to eat the foods they enjoy without all of the starch-derived calories.
