Government Operational Research
Service (GORS)
Nationality and Immigration
Requirements
Nationality
In general, most Operational Research posts in the Civil Service are open to
UK nationals,Commonwealth citizens, European Economic Area or Swiss
nationals or, in some circumstances, Turkish nationals. For full details about
these requirements and exceptions please see
http://www.civilservice.gov.uk/jobs/Nationality-Requirements/NationalityRequirements.aspx.
If you apply, you'll be asked about your nationality at birth, whether you have
ever possessed any other nationality or citizenship, whether you are subject
to immigration control and whether there are any restrictions on your
continued residence or employment in the UK.
Certain posts, notably those concerned with security and intelligence, might
be reserved for UK nationals, but this will not normally prevent access to a
wide range of posts within the Civil Service.
If you hold dual nationality (i.e. you are a British citizen and are also a national
of another country), you should check here for further nationality information.
Immigration
Please note that it is possible to meet the above nationality requirements and
still not be legally entitled to work in the UK. The UK Border Agency operates
a points-based immigration policy see
(http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk) which applies to
migrants from outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland and Turkey.
It is your responsibility to check whether this policy applies to you.
Departments are under no obligation to sponsor work permits under the UK
Border Agency’s points-based immigration policy. Therefore, if you require a
permit to work in the UK, there is no guarantee that you will be offered a place
even if you pass the GORS selection process. In these circumstances the
decision to apply, which might involve travel to the UK two or more times to
complete the selection process, is yours alone. We can take no responsibility
if no place is available for you on immigration grounds.
It is not possible to take part in the GORS selection process, except make an
online application, anywhere but the UK.
