Impact/results
The project's overall objective is to contribute to the socio-economic development
of the Western Balkans through improved and enhanced coordination of investment
policies and project finance support by the IFIs, bilateral donors and the European
Commission, with a particular focus on cooperation under the WBIF.
Key activities
The WBIF has been supported by the IFI Coordination Office (IFICO) since
February 2010. IFICO has proved to be a highly important and useful "tool" for the
WBIF Secretariat.

The project will continue to provide administrative, technical and
visibility/communication support to the WBIF Secretariat and governing bodies.
The project's activities will ensure access to information on key strategy and policy
issues, support the day-to-day functioning of the WBIF Secretariat and coordinate
the visibility/ communication flows among all WBIF stakeholders involved in
socio-economic activities in the region.
The project will also provide flexible and relevant technical assistance to the
NIPACs and line Ministries in the Western Balkans, in particular to support them in
implementing the connectivity agenda.
Key indicators
Effective coordination mechanism amongst the WBIF stakeholders, established and
operating.
Number of beneficiaries with an operational institutional set-up and a Single
Project Pipeline of prioritised investment projects.
Number of technical assistance and investment grants endorsed by the WBIF
Steering Committee and ready for implementation.
Link to needs
The IFICO will support WBIF stakeholders to achieve a coordinated approach
towards investment policy in the beneficiary countries.
Justification
The IFICO project will allow the WBIF to play its key role in the connectivity
agenda and enable the WBIF Secretariat/DN NEAR to continue and intensify its
supporting role in the dynamic and challenging environment in the Western Balkan
region.
