The 2017 Lobo Cancer Challenge
Our bike ride starts and finishes at
University Stadium – Home of the UNM Lobos!
Friday, September 22 — Kick Off Event
Saturday, September 23 — Inaugural Bike Ride
The Lobo Cancer Challenge is a major community fundraising initiative to raise
money and create awareness for cancer research and patient care in New Mexico.
It is a cycling event in which riders commit to raise a pre-determined dollar
amount by requesting support from personal contacts. Event sponsorship from
local supporters cover overhead costs. So whether you sponsor, ride, volunteer or
donate, 100 percent of the dollars that participants raise benefits cancer research
and supports patient care at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center.
A RECORD OF SUCCESS
Cancer is
the 2nd most
common cause
of death in
New Mexico.
A COMMUNITY EVENT
Bike rides throughout the country have proven to be an excellent way to connect
community members behind one goal: winning against cancer.
The Lobo Cancer Challenge is an opportunity to
bring New Mexicans from all walks of life together
toward a common goal of finding causes and cures
for cancer. This one day bike ride event will include
rides of 25, 50 and 100 miles to accommodate all
levels of riders.
Pelotonia
We ride for our loved ones, our
friends and family. We ride for the
doctors and nurses who make
their contribution every day and
the researchers in the lab working
tirelessly to defeat this disease.
We ride as a community to make
a difference.
Cancer Affects Each of Us
While we’ve made great strides in finding causes
and cures for cancer, we have more work to do. The
University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer
focuses on the cancers that disproportionately affect
New Mexicans. We serve the people of New Mexico
by bringing the latest, most advanced treatments,
based on cutting edge research and technology, to
our state.

OUR SPONSORS, OUR PARTNERS
Event sponsorship from local supporters covers overhead costs of the event.
Our sponsors become our partners in funding the research and patient care
we provide in New Mexico and we will recognize our sponsors in our event
communications.
OUTREACH
Our goal is to have 1,000 riders take part in our
inaugural event. We plan to engage the bicycling
community by meeting with bicycle clubs throughout
the state. Marketing support includes:
• Print
• Radio
• Television
• Outdoor ads
• Electronic and social media
TAKING PART
We plan to invite our community to participate in several ways:
• Individual Riders commit to raising a pre-determined dollar amount.
They can form a team to ride and raise the money.
• Corporate Teams are riders from the same business who ride and raise
money together. It’s an excellent way to build teamwork and comradery.
• Virtual Riders also raise a pre-determined dollar amount and can form a
team to raise the money. They are not able to ride in the event but ride
elsewhere on the same day.
• Volunteers help us to organize and run the event. They commit to a
pre-event training session.
