Spring Stroll, Walk, Run: Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the Spring Stroll, Walk, Run (SWR)?
A. The Branksome Hall Parents' Association Spring SWR is a 5k walk or run for the
Branksome community in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation on
Alumnae Reunion weekend.
Q. Is the event a timed event?
A. No, it is not.
Q. Who organizes the Spring SWR?
A. The Spring SWR is organized and executed by staff and volunteers of the
Branksome Hall Parents' Association. The generous support of volunteers help keep
costs down, which directs more money to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to
fund breast cancer research and health promotion initiatives.
Q. Do I have to actually run?
A. No. You can stroll leisurely, walk or run.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Students are encouraged to dress with spirit in their grade colours and with the
theme of their Advisor Group. There will be prizes for Most Spirited Advisor Group, Best
Advisor Group Costume and a Special Prize for the grade with the most participants,
including their families.
Q. May I ride my bike or inline skates?
A. No. For safety reasons, inline skates, bicycles, scooters and skateboards are not
permitted at the event. Strollers are welcome!
Q. May I bring my dog?
A. No, dogs are not allowed for safety reasons.
Q. If I walk on the Spring SWR path, do I have to sign up as a participant and what is
the fee?
A. Yes, in order to participate, you must register as a participant and pay all associated
fees. The fees are outlined on the sign-up page.
Q. Where does the money raised for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation go?
A. The net funds raised go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. For more
information about the Foundation, its work, and where the money goes in your region,
visit www.cbcf.org.
Q. Why is there a participant fee?
A. The Spring SWR is in support of realizing the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation's
vision of creating a future without breast cancer. There are costs associated with
staging an event of this scale to raise that money. We charge a participant fee to cover
costs associated to the event so that we can contribute to the cause.
Q. What happens at the finish line?
A. Participants welcoming you across the finish line with open arms and cheers.
Spectators are welcome. A light breakfast and refreshments will be served and are
included in the participant fees.
Q. What if there is bad weather?
A. We'll stroll, walk or run, whether it's rain or shine. If there is lightning, we'll postpone
the start until we have been in the clear for 30 minutes. Check online for weather status
updates that day.
Q. Will I receive a tax receipt for the cost of my ticket?
A. No, the participant fee is not eligible for a tax receipt.
Q. Is the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation a registered charity?
A. Yes. The Foundation’s charitable number is 12799 3608 RR0001. For participants
who choose to make an additional donation, you will receive a tax receipt.
