Apprenticeships All content correct at time of presentation creation – 25th April 2017, please check all reference materials quoted for updates APPRENTICESHIP LEVY All content correct at time of presentation creation – 25th April 2017, please check all reference materials quoted for updates • From 1st May 2017 • Payable by employers with an annual wage bill of more than £3million • Report and pay levy to HMRC through PAYE process on a monthly basis • Rate is 0.5% • Allowance of £15,000 per year above which levy is paid • Levy does not affect funding for apprentices who started a programme before 1st May 2017 Apprenticeship Levy • Apprenticeship Levy payers will access funds they have paid through a new digital account • Government top up monies paid in by an additional 10% • Funds expire after 24 months if not used – first in first expire basis • Can only be used to fund apprenticeships which commenced after 1st May 2017 Apprenticeship Levy • Funding bands are in place to determine maximum funding which can spend on each apprenticeship training course through the digital account • Funding bands vary by apprentice occupation and level • Age of apprentice does not impact on the amount paid • Funding band maximum per apprentice not per employer • Further incentive payments of £1000 for recruiting 16-18 year olds or 19-24 with an Education, Health Care Plan • Course costs above the funding band maximum would be met by the employer Spending Funds • • • • • • Bands range from 1 to 15 From band 1 @ £1,500 to band 15 @ £27,000 Examples: Formwork – band 8 = £6000 per apprentice Construction Operations – band 6 = £4000 per apprentice Management Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management – band 10 = £12000 • https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/apprentices hip-funding-bands Funding bands • To spend funds in your account need to: • Choose an approved training provider for your apprenticeship programme • There are 2 different types of apprenticeship programmes to choose form: • Apprenticeship standards • Apprenticeship frameworks • use the ‘Find apprenticeship training’ service to select an approved apprenticeship training provider • if you are using a standard, use the register of apprenticeship assessment organisations to select an approved assessment organisation.
