The Teachings of Buddhism 1. What are the Four Noble Truth? Truths that the Buddha discovered while meditating under the tree. 1. From Birth to Death Life filled with Suffering. 2. People suffer because they Desire things that do not last, such as pleasure and wealth 3. The way to end suffering is to get rid of desire. 4. The way to get rid of desire is to follow the Eightfold Path. 2. What is the Eightfold Path? Is a guide to a good life, follow the path and you will be free from suffering and find happiness. 1 Right understanding – be sure you understand the Buddha’s teaching 2 Right thought – think pure thoughts 3 Right speech – Speak the truth. Do not say bad things about other people. 4 Right action – Treat everyone the same, don’t hurt anyone. Eightfold Path continued 5 Right work – Earn a living in a that does not harm others. 6 Right effort – end bad thoughts, make a effort to be a better person. 7 Right mindfulness – Notice what is happening around you. 8 Right meditation – Meditate everyday, clear your mind of desires #3. What happens when people reach nirvana? When a Buddhist reaches Nirvana they will have a feeling of complete peace, they will not be reincarnated again, and all their suffering will end.
