The pollution that we are
talking about is caused by
maritime accidents such as
groundings, sinking and
collision of oil tankers.
The known “black tides”
resultants from big
leakage proceeding from
accidents are the most
broadcasted in the media
and their consequences
are known by everyone.
The images of birds
full of crude are sad
ex-libris from the
twentieth century,
such as the name of
the ships associated
at this disasters;
Torrey Canyon (UK,
1967), Amoco Cadiz
(France, 1978) or
Exxon Valdez
(Alaska, 1989).
In general the
environmental
performance from the
maritime transport has
increased the quantity
of hydrocarbons that
get into the ocean. It’s
our responsibility to
reduce it, and it’s true
that it is one of the less
polluting way of
transport.
It’s necessary
to prevent the
accidents and
fight the
opportunism
and the
disrespect of
intentional
leakages and
prepare
contingency
plans to make
front to
emergencies.
