Gauteng positions itself
as preferred investment
destination through IDZ
Gauteng is gearing up to fast-track its
ambitions of becoming a preferred
investment destination, as it opens its
doors for private-sector participation and
collaboration for critical projects to meet the
province’s vision for the Gauteng city region
over the next 15 years. After the the
successful GIIC conference the Gauteng
Govt is keeping its promise of ensuring
infrastructure development through the IDZ
Sod turning event marking the construction
of a major infrastructure project in the
region. The event will be taking place on
11 September 2015.
The Gauteng government, in partnership with Municipalities
and the private sector convened the inaugural Gauteng
Infrastructure Investment Conference (GIIC). The conference
aimed to bring together the private sector and government to
engage on the Gauteng City Region Infrastructure needs and
plans. The conference discussed investment opportunities in
the following areas; New Post-Apartheid Cities; Energy; ICT
and Broadband connectivity; Aerotropolis; Water and Sanitation
and Inner City Regeneration.
It was a key step towards strengthening partnerships and
collaboration between government and the private sector in the
quest to build Gauteng as a globally competitive city region and
a preferred destination for investment and tourism. The Gauteng
government, in partnership with Municipalities and the private
sector convened the inaugural Gauteng Infrastructure Investment
Conference (GIIC).
The conference aimed to bring together the private sector and
government to engage on the Gauteng City Region Infrastructure
needs and plans.
The GIIC discussed investment opportunities in the following

connectivity; Aerotropolis; Water and Sanitation and Inner City
Regeneration.

The GIIC aimed to not only source investment for the Province
and create awareness of the multitude of opportunities available
within the market, it was also aimed at creating a sustainable
and economically sound infrastructure network from which all
residing in Gauteng to those who are international investors
can relish in and enjoy the growth within the future.
The conference saw a total of 290 private sector exhibitors and
a total of 1449 registered delegates, this figure is more as there
were walk-in delegates that were not registered on the GIIC
online registration portal. There were 20 SMME’s present and
were afforded the opportunity to exhibit their products over the
two days of the conference.
