Date: 03/24/17 Scientist, Molecular Interaction and Characterization BioAnalytical Sciences (BAS) Job ID: 3400077622 Job Function Other Development Schedule Full-time Location United States - California South San Francisco Job type Company/Division Job Level Pharmaceuticals Individual Contributor Regular Employee The Position The BioAnalytical Sciences (BAS) Department within Development Sciences develops, validates, implements, and maintains biological matrix assays and automated systems in both non-regulated and compliant environments to support clinical and nonclinical studies. The Core Biophysical Characterization and Reagent Facility (CBCRF) in BAS provides critical molecular interaction information and well characterized bioanalytical assay reagents to enable biopharmaceutical development at Genentech. A Scientist in the CBCRF group is a highly motivated and creative individual who designs, develops and refines in vitro methodologies to characterize both biotherapeutics and bioanalytical reagents in support of regulatory filings. This individual will develop molecular interaction strategies, will evaluate and implement a range of biophysical methods to characterize protein-target interactions and bioanalytical reagents, will present strategies and datasets to project teams and scientific review committees. S/he will manage timelines and resources to meet project and functional goals. The Scientist will also develop and characterize in vitro assay methods for biological characterization of biotherapeutics and bioanalytical assay reagents. This will involve laboratory work, the use of automation systems and various biophysical and biochemical platforms, and participation in compliance and safety related activities. This individual will also take on the responsibility of establishing subject matter expertise within Development Sciences in the area of molecular interaction analysis and reagent characterization. They may work with external expertise and internal colleagues to help design and execute molecular interaction strategies for pre-clinical and clinical studies. This individual may be responsible for writing technical reports and/or sections of regulatory filings related to bioanalytical assay reagents and/or characterization of biological activity. This individual may also be involved with the assessment and implementation of new technologies, reagents, and methods. This Scientist will work in a very fast-paced crossfunctional environment, and is expected to contribute to departmental activities. This individual may also be expected to help train colleagues and to mentor and/or supervise more junior colleagues. Who You Are A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Immunology, or a related field or an equivalent credential is required, with at least two years of relevant postgraduate experience. Background knowledge and practical experience in developing bioanalytical methods and reagents for protein therapeutics, along with a proven track record of productivity and publications solving complex bioanalytical problems are essential. A strong technical background that includes extensive laboratory experience in molecular interaction work (e.g., thermodynamics, kinetics, binding affinity measurement using surface plasmon resonance) is essential. Proficiency in biophysical characterization methods such as light scattering, HPLC for biologics would be a plus. Familiarity with standard text, graphic, and presentation software is required, and familiarity with database/data archival software systems is helpful. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required. Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience is a real advantage, as is a basic understanding of compliance. *LI-gRED-EK Who We Are A member of the Roche Group, Genentech has been at the forefront of the biotechnology industry for more than 40 years, using human genetic information to develop novel medicines for serious and life-threatening diseases.
