Color Changing Milk

Brief description
Food coloring starts in the middle
on top of the milk then with a Qtip and a little dish washing soap
the color spreads quickly to the
rim of the plate.
Materials
 2% Milk
 Dinner plate
 Food coloring (red, yellow, green, blue)
 Dish-washing soap
 Q-tips
Step-by-step process
First, you poor the milk onto the dinner plate.
Then you put one drop of each color of food
coloring in the center of the milk. Next put some
soap on one end of the Q-tip. Put the Q-tip into
the coloring and watch the colors go.
Changes
You could use different liquids other
than milk or you could use something
other than dish soap. You could
change the colors of the food dye
also.
Why does it work?
It works because the fats and proteins in
milk are sensitive to the surrounding
solution which would be the milk in this
case. The dish soaps bipolar characteristics
weakens the chemicals bonds that hold the
proteins and fats in solution.
