Tel: +606-5582165 (Office), +6019-3630771 (Hp) The Interactive and Communicative English (ICE) Module for Tahfiz Students is a book module which include various English communicative activities suited for tahfiz students. The module is initiated from the realization to develop a solid foundation of English, most importantly, the communicative skills of tahfiz students in delivering and communicating the Islamic values and knowledge to a global range of audience. The module is a compilation and adaptation of English materials which comprise of pronunciation, syntax, reading and listening practices as well as classroom presentation activities to aid students in empowering the target language. Penang Invention, Innovation And Research Design 2017 (PIID 2017) These materials are obtained via English as a Second Language (ESL) books and web resources at economical cost. The English materials used in the module are more suited towards tahfiz students compared to common English materials as they are organized and tailored to help the students’ journey on becoming a hafiz or hafizah. Through a series of activities conducted via the module, results have shown that students were able to relate to the materials presented and most importantly enjoyed the activities while using the target language. The ICE module has a great potential to promote English as a medium of interaction among tahfiz students and build their confidence towards the target language. The ICE module shall provide an insightful aspects of the communicative skills needed by the students in becoming the future hafiz or hafizah capable of delivering and sharing Islamic knowledge and values. In addition to the materials from ESL books and websites, the module also adapts several texts related to the history and development of Islam. The combination of both Islamic and English materials offer a good and conducive platform for tahfiz students to practice using the target language in their daily routine. Penang Invention, Innovation And Research Design 2017 (PIID 2017) Benefit to mankind The ICE module is a comprehensive guide for tahfiz students in acquiring the English communicative skills needed. It provides an alternative and practical method in developing students’ interest towards oral presentation skills. In addition, it has a huge potential in assisting tahfiz school educators to utilize the English speaking activities in their classroom. It also helps the students to comprehend basic concepts of verbal and non-verbal in communication. Potential commercialization The ICE module appears to be like any normal English textbook for students. Apart from that, the module plays an important role as a teaching and learning tool especially to help facilitate tahfiz students learning using the target language. With suitable and appropriate materials such as high definition visual stimuli and audio recording, the module can be enhanced to suit current demands for a proficient English speaker. Researchers Biographical Data Mohamad Razif Ibrahim holds a master’s degree and a degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam. He is currently an English lecturer attached to the Academy of Language Studies, Universisti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Melaka. He was the Resource Person (RP) for BEL260 (Preparatory Course for MUET) and at present, the coordinator for Language Proficiency Courses for UiTM Melaka. His research interests include Information Communication Technology, instructional materials in teaching and experiential learning. Raihan Md Ghazali is a master’s degree holder in English Language & Literature (IIUM 2010) and has a degree in English Language and Literature (IIUM 2006). Presently working at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Melaka as a full time English lecturer. He was entrusted with the responsibility as the Lecturer in-charged (LiC) of ELC030 (English for Pre-Diploma) for 3 years from 2013-2016. Raihan’s research interests include literature, genre analysis and second language acquisition (SLA). Penang Invention, Innovation And Research Design 2017 (PIID 2017) Fazlinda Hamzah, a master’s degree holder in English Language Studies (IIUM). She currently works as an English lecturer for the Academy of Language Studies, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Melaka. She took her first degree in English Language and Literature (2007) from IIUM. Fazlinda’s research interests are in the field of Islamization of Knowledge, sociolinguistics, second language acquisition (SLA) and phonetics. Siti Nur Farrah Faadiah bt. Ab Ghani holds a Master’s Degree in Corporate Communication from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and a degree in Mass Communication (Broadcasting) from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam. She is currently attached to the Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Melaka since 2007 and serves as the Resource Person (RP) for LIB101 (Sociology) since 2009. Her research interests includes sociology, media psychology and new media. Dr. Mohd Shahnawi Bin Muhmad Pirus had completed his PhD in Communication at the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA after obtaining his Master of Mass Communication in 2008. To date, he has served Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam as a Senior Lecturer for the Interpersonal Communication Programme (MC227/MC247) since January 8, 2009. His research interests are interpersonal communication, journalism and mass media.
