Disney’s Animal Kingdom-Animal Behavior Internship
Responsibilities Include:
Systematic behavioral observations of animals in Disney’s Animal Kingdom will
be used to add to our understanding of zoo animals and to facilitate their optimal
care and well being. Interns will be trained in research methodology used in
studying animal behavior in a zoo setting. Interns may assist in all aspects of
behavioral research including date collection, data entry and analysis, library
research, statistical analyses, and report written analyses associated with on
going projects.
Projects Include:
On-going research projects may include the following areas: Reproductive
behavior, habitat use and activity cycles, and inter and intra specific
introductions. Data may be collected through direct observations of the animals
or by viewing videotapes.

Responsibilities Include:
Assisting with the development and operation of research programs for the
Wildlife Tracking Center at Disney’s Animal Kingdom including data entry for
all projects, literature searches, interacting with Guests in Wildlife Tracking
Center at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Conservation Station.
Projects Include:
Working closely with Conservation Biologist in collecting data for tracking
studies of collection animals and wild animals, assisting with operation of
Wildlife Tracking Center at Conservation Station, interpreting for Guest data
collected for all field projects, conducting literature searches and other resource
collection for program development.

Responsibilities Include:
Assisting Veterinary Cast Members in the daily operations of the hospital facility.
Duties may include diet preparation, record keeping, stocking medical supplies,
data entry, laboratory assistance, cleaning, maintenance of surgical equipment,
and other animal hospital related work. Assisting with the development and
implementation of presentations used in the veterinary “on show” window for
our guests. These presentations will help educate and inspire our guests in areas

Internship
Responsibilities Include:
Assisting with the organization of medical record filing and date entry associated
with animal medical test reports. Interns will assist with the computer medical
record entry, including data entry and medical transcriptions, assist with the
preparation of permits and certificates associated with any animal shipments,
maintaining existing medical records, and performing other office related
responsibilities for the Veterinary Hospital.

Responsibilities Include:
Providing support on intra-departmental projects and current research.
Operational duties include daily analysis of fisheries systems, weekly field
sampling for reptile, mammal, and avian aquatic habitats, and organization and
upkeep of the water chemistry laboratory at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Also,
responsible for maintaining, calibrating, and operating the analytical
instrumentation, which includes dissolved oxygen, pH, and ORP probes, ion
chromatographs, sopectrophotometers, and associated equipment. Current
project research involves fisheries health management, aquatic habitat support,
ozone disaffection efficiencies, and new water treatment technology.

Interns will assist in the development of new data collection technologies and the
automation of reporting and queering capabilities.
Projects will include:
Develop animal observation data collection screens for Palm Pilots using satellite

report system and participate in designing new program functionality. Develop

Bottlenose Dolphins and West Indian Manatees. Introduction to training basics,
record keeping, and research sessions and implementation. Interns are

Responsibilities Include:
A combination of operational, intra-departmental project support and applied
research. Operational duties include daily pH analyses of the marine mammal
holding areas, weekly in-depth chemistry analyses of the main aquarium, and
organization and upkeep of the instrumental and water chemistry labs at The
Living Seas. Responsible for maintaining, calibrating, and operating the
analytical instrumentation, which includes ion chromatograph, GC/MS, TOC
analyzer, and associated automation systems. The project support and applied
research involves areas such as ozone reaction kinetics, and disinfecting
efficiencies, microbiological optimization and modeling of the denitrification
system, new water treatment technologies and analytical support of other related
departments.

Guests.
Projects include:
