Space exploration is an ever developing area of science. As a result of the many different space programs across the world, technology is continually advancing. Many of the materials and equipment designed have had an impact on our daily lives. Name one material or piece of equipment which was originally developed for space, describe its use in space and give information about its use in everyday life. 2. As well as the benefits of the space program there is a down side – Space Junk! NASA currently monitors over 13,000 man-made objects orbiting the Earth larger than 10cm in diameter – this has increased from 9,000 in 2000. To solve any projectile problem it is necessary to use the formula which applies to each of these directions. Horizontally Velocity is constant ( a = 0 m/s2) v= d t where v = average horizontal velocity in metres per second (m/s) d = horizontal distance travelled in metres (m) t = time taken in seconds (s). Vertically Acceleration due to gravity Where a = acceleration due to gravity in metres per second per second (m/s 2) u = initial vertical velocity in metres per second (m/s) v = final vertical velocity in metres per second (m/s) t = time taken in seconds (s). To calculate the vertical distance travelled during any projectile journey you must draw a speed time graph for the journey and use: distance travelled = area under speed time graph. 1.
