Brussels, August 2009 Rezidor celebrates Responsible Business Action Month and takes action for Childhood The Rezidor Hotel Group celebrates Responsible Business Action Month for the 6th year: In September, all 275 operating hotels of the company across Europe, the Middle East and Africa are encouraged to organize social and environmental activities – engaging with employees, guests and the local community, and raising awareness for Responsible Business. A special focus will be placed on fundraising for Rezidor’s corporate charity organisation, World Childhood Foundation. “Charitable organisations are also suffering in the economic crisis, but we believe the “Yes I Can!” attitude of our employees can help make it right”, comments Sarah Rooney, Manager Responsible Business at Rezidor. Hotels will undertake activities ranging from traditional community and environmental events like car free days, blood donations and tree plantings to more creative and fun activities with a certain twist seeking sponsorship in aid of Childhood. “Our take action for Childhood campaign will see General Managers work as receptionists, Chief Engineers attempt to remain silent for a day and employees who will dress in green for the month, all competing for the action prize for the most creative fundraising for World Childhood Foundation”, says Sarah Rooney. For the first time, hotels can promote their fundraising activities for the World Childhood Foundation online – by creating their own webpage on www.firstgiving.com featuring messages, photos and videos around their Responsible Business efforts. Responsible Business Action Month is part of Rezidor’s company-wide Responsible Business Programme which was launched in 2001 and comprises responsibility for guest and employee health & safety, respect for social & ethical issues within the company and reduced environmental impact. Rezidor was also the first hotel group to offer guests carbon offset possibilities. For its engagement the group has received several awards including the Worldwide Hospitality Award in 2004. Since June 2007 the World Childhood Foundation is Rezidor’s corporate charity partner. This non for profit organisation, founded in 1999 by H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden, is dedicated to serving the most vulnerable children in the world –those living on the street, who are sexually abused, exploited or trafficked for sexual purposes.
