COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides the fundamentals of pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, and fixed and removable
prosthodontics with detailed instructions of the dental assistant’s role in each specialty area including
instrumentation.
COURSE PREREQUISITE (S):
Completion of DENT 1230
RATIONALE:
This course meets the requirements of the College and for accreditation with the American Dental Association.

Pediatric Dentistry
Introduction to Pediatric Dentistry
Upon completion of this unit, the dental assisting student will be able to:

Describe the ten (10) behavior management techniques taken from the American Academy
of Pediatric Dentistry’s published Standards of Care for Behavior Management.
5. List and describe the behavior characteristics of a child at the following ages:

6. Discuss techniques that can be used when verbal communication is done with a child (think)

Fixed and Removable Appliances
Upon completion of this unit, the dental assisting student will be able to:
