Artificial Intelligence (A.I) An Overview Hammajam A. Adamu In The News • Will Artificial Intelligence Replace Designers? 2Hrs ago • When artificial intelligence is everywhere, all the time 2hrs ago What is Artificial Intelligence? Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the study and creation of computer systems that can perceive, reason and act. What does A.I aims to Achieve? The primary aim of AI is to produce intelligent machines. The intelligence should be exhibited by thinking, making decisions, solving problems, more importantly by learning. • A.I is an interdisciplinary field that requires knowledge in computer science, linguistics, psychology, biology, philosophy and so on. • A.I also draws heavily from Cognitive Sciences, Engineering, Ethics, Logic, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Physiology, Statistics Evolution of Artificial Intelligence Calculators to enhance our brains and help us with our maths Telephone Operators Then we started Automating things that are ‘repetitive’ Enhancing our brains with search engines/robots Having access to Google and other search engines makes us appear intelligent and enhances our experience. Example of A.I in Financial and Stock Markets • Automated computer programs have changed how markets function- FT.com • Companies are able to carry out more than 500million auto trades per month • Makes decisions every millisecond and makes hundreds a millions of dollars. Next Generation A.I Adaptive- Self Learning - Intuitive Singularity-Ray Kutzweil AI in the Movies After Singularity? • Humanity as we know it today will become non-existent. • Human and Machine becomes one. • Real reality and Virtual Reality becomes the same Change is constant • 300 years ago, 90% of people worked in the agriculture age. • Today only 2% of people work in agriculture Are we better off or NOT? As Technology keeps evolving • The AI world will be virtual • Robots will begin to work for us • Billions of algorithms in AI’s will be running to discover new cures to Cancer, Schizophrenia, Alzheimer and even ageing. • Medical discoveries will be achieved by billions of A.I not Humans The future of surgery. The Surgical Robot “We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next 10” Bill Gates Exponential Trends Moore's Law The observation made in 1965 by Gordon Moore, co-founder of Intel, that the number of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits had doubled every year since the integrated circuit was invented. Moore predicted that this trend would continue for the foreseeable future. Computing Power • A smartphone today is much more powerful than a computer 50 years ago. • Computers continue to become smaller, smarter and cheaper • It is projected that in the next 25 years, a cell phone size computer will be able to fit into a blood cell • Vaccines could be administered to repair your body using these computers powered by new discoveries in Nanotechnology. Knowledge Doubling Knowledge • 1500 Years: Every 1500 humans double the body of knowledge • 250 Years: When we started writing books, knowledge started doubling every 250 years. • 25 Years: With the discovery of science, we started doubling knowledge every 25 years. • 8 Years: with the advent of information technology, humans started doubling knowledge every 8 years. • 1 year: Now, in the Information age, knowledge is doubled every year Limitation of Biology We are currently building a body of knowledge that the human brain cannot comprehend 86,000,000,000 Neurons Limited Brain Capacity • We do not have enough capacity to comprehend the tons of information. • AI can help address that • What if we can add 10x or a million more more neural capacity to our brains? Where do you Stand? Thank you for listening
