ASTROSYNTHESIS The Certificate in Applied Astrology by distance learning CERTIFICATE IN APPLIED ASTROLOGY SYLLABUS AstroSynthesis offers its Certificate in Applied Astrology through distance learning. We have endeavoured to make our syllabus as thorough as possible without extraneous and unnecessary information. The program has been developed from over 27 years of teaching experience. The intention is to provide you with an in depth understanding of the imaginative language of astrology. Since astrology has had such a rich oral tradition, our distance learning program includes each lesson on a compact disc, recorded specifically for the distance learning student. The course includes eight modules as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. THE WHEEL OF LIFE: Elements and Signs of the Zodiac ENERGIES OF LIFE: Understanding the Planetary Archetypes ASPECTS OF LIFE: The Twelve Houses and Aspects of the Horoscope CONSIDERING THE HOROSCOPE: Astrological Points of Interest LIFE PARTNERS: Family Dynamics and Relationship Patterns CYCLES OF LIFE: Planetary Cycles and Transits LIFE SKILLS: Resources in the Horoscope TIMES OF LIFE: Future Trends and Progressing the Horoscope Each module consists of: 10 CD’s specifically recorded for the distance learning program, mindful of the student learning on their own. Each CD has been professionally recorded and covers the lesson from an in depth point of view; A workbook with detailed notes, Astro*Synthesis student booklets (available also on CD in PDF format) as well as supplementary reading; a suggested reading list, exercises; and an assignment or assignments to be assessed (only if part of the Certificate program) Below is a general outline of each module in the AstroSynthesis Distance Learning program: UNIT 1: THE WHEEL OF LIFE Elements and Signs of the Zodiac An introduction to astrology is followed by a thorough examination of the four elements, the three qualities and the twelve signs of the zodiac with their psychological, mythological and astrological correspondences. Besides character types, the zodiac or ‘wheel of life’ symbolises twelve initiatory stages in the life process representing essential qualities of human experience. UNIT 2: THE ENERGIES OF LIFE Planetary Archetypes The planetary pantheon of contemporary astrology includes the luminaries Sun and Moon, as well as Chiron. Planetary archetypes will be thoroughly examined with reference to their astrological qualities and their archetypal and mythological associations. Metaphorically, the planets personify the powerful urges, energies and instincts that underpin life. Psychologically planets represent the archetypal influences of the inner and outer worlds. UNIT 3: ASPECTS OF LIFE The Twelve Houses and Aspects of the Horoscope The angles of the horoscope, the Ascendant, Descendant, MC, and IC, are life’s compass points orientating us to the world. We will study these powerful axes, the horoscope’s four quadrants and hemispheres with the twelve houses. Planets in signs and houses and signs on house cusps will give meaning to the horoscope. Major aspects symbolise the planetary dialogues revealing the horoscope’s sub-personalities. Aspects, the planetary lifelines, their patterns and planetary pictures will be thoroughly examined. UNIT 4: CONSIDERING THE HOROSCOPE Astrological Analysis New material on specialised topics such as the lunar nodes, intercepted signs, retrograde planets, the lunation cycle and the vertex will be presented in order for the student to be able to have an appreciation of the richness of the horoscope. As well, some technical aspects including the ephemeris will be presented. UNIT 5: LIFE PARTNERS Family Dynamics & Relationship Patterns Focusing on the impact of the family, we will explore parental issues, sibling dynamics and the family of origin from both an astrological and psychological point of view. Parental and ancestral themes that impact the individual’s destiny will be explored in depth, along with adult and personal relationships, potentials and patterns. UNIT 6: CYCLES OF LIFE Planetary Cycles and Transits The impact of cycles and transits of all the planets, including Chiron on our experience of self will be analysed thoroughly. We will look at the impact of each of the planet’s transits and cycles on the development of the individual. Stages of the life cycle such as childhood, adolescence, adulthood, mid-life, the 50’s etc. will also be explored in context of the planetary cycles. UNIT 7: LIFE SKILLS Resources in the Horoscope The horoscope reveals inherent skills and resources as well as the capacity for well being. During this unit we will explore both physical and mental health and ways to maintain well being and a healthy lifestyle. This will entail examination of a range of emotional states. Vocational issues and work will also be explored. The four main asteroids will be introduced as potent indicators of feminine resources UNIT 8: TIMES OF LIFE Future Trends and Progressing the Horoscope Progressions and directions will be introduced, concentrating specifically on secondary progressions. Studying the cycles of the progressed planets and the progressed lunation cycle reveals significant passages of life. Methods that will help us determine upcoming trends for an individual will be presented. Solar and lunar eclipses along with the cycle of the lunar nodes will also be examined. The unit ends with an overview of presenting a chart for delineation and consultation. CERTIFICATE IN APPLIED ASTROLOGY DETAILS Each lesson has been recorded exclusively for the distance learning program, tailored for students unable to attend classes in Melbourne. Students keep all the materials supplied in the course. Our approach is humanistic and therefore archetypal psychology and mythology are interwoven throughout the program. We recommend approximately three months per module; however, the student works at the pace they feel comfortable with. We suggest about 4-6 hours a week study which includes listening to the class, taking notes, doing the exercises, supplementary reading and your own self study. Brian Clark has developed this course and he has specifically recorded all the CD’s with the distance learning student in mind. There are two options available within the correspondence course: the first is interest only. This is offered to individuals who are interested in self-study without the commitment to a regular course of study or assessment. This stream includes all the materials; however, it is not necessary to submit assignments. The course booklets and workbooks are included on a PDF file. This stream does not include assessment and is geared for students who are interested in self study and development, without the process of accreditation or examination. Later if you wish to pursue qualifications, you can elect to sit the Federation of Australian Astrologer’s exams which lead to a Practitioner’s Certificate. The second option is the Certificate in Applied Astrology, which leads to qualification, the requirement for any graduate astrological study. REQUIREMENTS Astro*Synthesis has conducted a regular teaching program since 1986 and has offered the Certificate in Applied Astrology successfully for all these years. Our course has been audited and approved by the Association of Professional Astrologers in Australia (APA) and the Association of Professional Astrologers International in the UK (APAI). We recognise that many astrological courses are now available; therefore if you are still unaware of which course to commit to, we suggest that you order only the first unit in the interest series, and then if you would like to continue you are always welcome to join the accreditation stream later. Assessment for the Certificate is based on eight assignments completed during the course of the program. Generally assignments are completed and returned at the end of each unit of study.
