The entire frame of our body is made of
bones and is called the skeleton. It is the
name given to the framework of bones that
holds up the rest of our body. All the bones of
our body are connected to each other. The
places where the bones meet are called joints.
The end of each bone is covered by a tough,
smooth shiny substance called cartilage. The
ends of each bone are further separated by a
thin film of slippery fluid that works like oil
in a car. It prevents the, bones from bumping
against each other when you move. Our bones
are held together by strong elastic-like
bands called ligaments.
THE SKELTAL SYSTEM . . .
THE FUNCTIONS OF THE SKELETAL SYSTEM. . .
• The function of the skeletal system is to provide support.
The skeletal is the framework of the body, which supports
softer tissues by providing points of attachments for most
skeletal muscles. The basic shape and structure for the
body is provided by bones. It also assists in movement and
storage of minerals..
THE ORGANS. . . . . .
The organs of the skeletal system include the bones, ligaments,
tendons, and cartilage. Bones provide the framework of the
body, promote mobility, and serve as protection for
other organs of the body. Ligaments are fibrous tissues that
connect one bone to another, thus forming a joint that allows
for greater range of motion. Tendons are also composed of
fibrous tissue and serve to connect muscles to the bones.
Cartilage is a type of flexible connective tissue that protects the
bones and helps to form body parts such as the ears and nose.
INTERACTS WITH…
• The interaction between the skeletal system and the
muscular system is so constant that sometimes the
two organ systems are referred to as one system-the musculoskeletal system. Skeletal muscles must
be attached to something at either end to give them
support while they contract. Typically this means
each end of a skeletal muscle is attached to a bone.
HOW THE SKELETAL SYSTEM
WORKS….
•
The skeletal system works to support your. Without your
skeletal frame, you would be unable to move. Humans are
vertebrates, meaning we have bony, articulated (jointed)
endoskeletons. An endoskeleton is a frame within the body
that offers support as it grows and develops. The skeletal
system offers protection, support, blood cell formation,
stores minerals and energy and adds movement.
