The United States of America is the world's third largest
country in size and nearly the third largest in population.
America is bordered by:

the Pacific Ocean

the Atlantic Ocean

Canada

Mexico.

There are 50 states and the District of Columbia.
More than twice the size of the European Union, the United
States has high mountains in the West and a huge central
plain.
The lowest point in the country is in Death Valley which is at 86 meters and the highest peak is Mt. McKinley at 6,198
meters.




The United Staes of America (the USA) has a population of
about 300 million. It is a very big country. It is almost
4,000 km from New York to Los Angeles. The country is so
big that parts of the USA are in different time zones.
When it is 9 a.m. in New York, it is only 6 a.m. in Los
Angeles.
America is a country of many cultures. The first people to
live there were the Native American Indians. They lived in
groups or tribes and each tribe had its own traditions.
Europeans started to live in America in the 16th century,
and in the 17th century there were number of colonies. At
first they were helped by the Native Americans.
