Happy 48th birthday today to Patricia Lynn Yearwood (better known as Tricia)! A Country
Music Association (CMA) Female Vocalist award winner in 1997 and 1998, she became a
member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1999. Helen Carter, of The Carter Family, was born on this
date in 1927. She passed away in 1998. Comedian, actor, director, journalist, author and
composer Don Harron was born on this date in 1924 in Toronto. His best-known character,
Charlie Farquharson, was regular on the TV show "Hee Haw." Singer Bill Medley, half of The
Righteous Brothers, turns 72 today! He pursued a country music career in the mid-1980's and
had half-a-dozen songs on the country music charts. Pop singer Brook Benton was born on this
date in 1931 (he passed away in 1988). One of the last songs Conway Twitty recorded was a
duet with Sam Moore on Brook's classic song "Rainy Night in Georgia." Pop singer/songwriter
Paul Williams turns 72 today. His version of "Making Believe" peaked at #93 on the country
music charts in 1981. London, Ont. music promoter (and big Country 107 3 fan!) Tammie
Schwartzentruber celebrates her birthday today. Tammie got hitched earlier this year to Derek! Singer/songwriter Sylvia Tyson turns 72 today! She was part of the legendary duo Ian & Sylvia
and part of the incredible group Quartette. Singer/songwriter Jeff Bates turns 49 today! His
"Long, Slow Kisses" was a Top 20 country hit in 2004. Happy birthday today to St. Thomas,
Ont., singer/songwriter Traci Kennedy! Traci stopped by our studios earlier this summer. Kitchener, Ont., singer James Cameron celebrates his birthday, today. I met him earlier this
year and was impressed! Cousin Eli, of The Abrams Brothers, also celebrates a birthday today.
The Abrams are busy on the road promoting their current single and album "Northern
Redemption."
Singer/songwriter Red Foley died of a heart attack at the age of 58 on this date in 1968. He

was one of country music's biggest stars in the 1950's. Country/rock pioneer Gram Parsons
died at the age of 26 on this date in 1973 in a California desert motel. His coffin was later stolen
by two associates and set on fire, as per his wishes! Singer/songwriter Skeeter Davis died of
cancer on this date in 2004 at a Nashville hospice. Her 1963 hit, "The End of the World,"
peaked at #2 on both the Country and Pop music charts! Australian country singer Slim Dusty
died one year earlier of cancer at the age of 76. He performed the Australian ballad "Waltzing
Matilda" at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
