Millie Miller VANCOUVER ISLAND UNVERSITY THEATRE DEPARTMENT PRESENTS MACBETH Swords, witches, goddesses and ghosts: welcome to Shakespeare’s most popular and darkest tragedy, whose very name became synonymous with bad luck. Macbeth is an honourable man who has won favour with his friend the King, when Macbeth is approached by three witches who inform him that the fates have chosen him to become King. He writes home to his wife, whose own ambition sees that the quickest way to make this come true would be to kill the King. Macbeth becomes paranoid, obsessed, and views everyone around him with suspicion. As Macbeth sinks deeper, he is haunted by his own actions and a paranormal world which will not let him rest until the final and bloody conclusion. This fast-paced production is a thrill for both Shakespeare lovers and newcomers alike. Set in an ancient world where the natural, magical world, and an organized, manmade world are often at odds, this production looks at the battle between pagan and Christian beliefs where witches are feared, prophesies revered, and it all collapses in on one man.
