JOB DESCRIPTION
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Executive Director position is responsible for the effective provision of the Beaufort
Delta Sahtu Recreation Association’s (BDSRA) Mission to enhance the quality of life of
the Beaufort Delta Sahtu residents by fostering and supporting development of
recreation, sport, youth, volunteers, culture, traditional events and leadership throughout
the region by embracing the principles of Canadian Sport for Life.
The Executive Director will be responsible for delivering the strategic priorities of the
organization as set by the BDSRA Board of Directors and the BDSRA Business Plan.
The position will act as senior advisor to the BDSRA Board of Directors in the
development of policy, budgets, strategic and business planning.
The Executive Director will develop, manage, and lead the operations of the BDSRA,
and provide necessary reporting to the BDSRA Board of Directors and outside agencies
as required. The position will also be responsible for the marketing and promotion of the
BDSRA.
SCOPE
 The activities of the position impact all the policies, procedures and plans of the BDSRA.
 The position impacts the relationships with government, non-governmental, and
corporate partners and funders (at community, regional, territorial, and national levels).
 The position impacts the programs and services available to support community
recreation in the NWT.
 The position promotes the BDSRA to the communities, to funding partners, to other
NWT Sport Partners, and to the general public in the Beaufort Delta Sahtu Region.
 Reporting to the Board of Directors through the President, the position is responsible for
the operations of Beaufort Delta Sahtu Recreation Association. The BDSRA Annual
budget varies according to base funding and contribution agreements.
 The Executive Director position is an employee of the Beaufort Delta Sahtu Recreation
Association. The position provides guidance and advice to the Board of Directors and
other service delivery professionals.
 This position has signing authority for the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide administrative duties towards the infrastructure of the BDSRA:
 Promote the programs and mission of the BDSRA and encourage all BDSRA
communities to become more physically active.
 Development of policies and ensure adherence of all programs to these policies.
 Assist the BDSRA Board of Directors with the lobbying for programs and funding
related to the BDSRA.
 Provide reporting as required to the BDSRA, funding partners, and other
stakeholders.
2. Provide administrative duties to promote the BDSRA, maintain communications and
networking, and:
 Maintain regular communications and network with all BDSRA communities and
their community groups/governments.
 Maintain regular communications and network with funding partners.
 Maintain regular communications and network with other NWT sport and recreation
partners.
 Maintain regular communications and network with GNWT departments, schools and
TSO’s.
 Maintain and update the BDSRA website and other social media sites.
 Promote Beaufort Delta Sahtu Recreation Association towards achieving greater
market penetration.
 Create and develop strategic partnerships with corporate, Government and private
sponsors to provide the Beaufort Delta Sahtu Recreation Association with potential
revenue streams.
3. Provide administrative duties towards maintaining daily operations:
 Respond to general requests via phone, email and fax.
 Order, track, and maintain required inventory program delivery.
 Provide advice and direction to clients seeking program information.
 Sort, distribute and respond to various correspondences.
4. Administer all primary duties as part of the core focus of BDSRA organization:
 Direct the distribution of all program funding offered by Beaufort Delta Sahtu
Recreation Association with direction from Executive Board
 Develop new programs as required by members, partners, funders and the Board of
Directors particularly those that promote being physically active.
5. Support, guide and receive direction from the Board of Directors:
 Guide and offer council to the Board of Directors to inform of the operations of
Beaufort Delta Sahtu Recreation Association.
 With Board of Directors, develop BDSRA business plan.
 Apply Board of Directors direction with respect to implementing national & regional
initiatives, and to implement the BDSRA Business Plan.
 Attend all Board meetings.

6. Ensure all financial records are maintained:
 Develop and administer the operational budget including maintaining all relevant
records and final reports.
 Develop and maintain electronic process to allow easier reporting to funding partners.
 Track accounts payable/receivable.
 Facilitate invoice payments by obtaining the appropriate authorizations.
 Reconcile all program delivery revenues and expenditures.
 Maintain an active record of program revenues and costs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
To satisfy the expectations of the Board of Directors the incumbent should have the following
qualifications or equivalencies:
 Post-secondary education in recreation/leisure studies, public administration,
business, adult education or a related discipline.
 Experience working in senior executive positions.
 Experience in the administration of budgets, and a working knowledge of Simply
Accounting or similar software.
 Ability to network with government, business and non-profit agencies.
 Experience working with a Board of Directors and non-profit agencies.
 It would be an asset to understand the NWT sport environment.
In addition the incumbent should be:
 Strongly self-motivated.
 Well organized.
 Have excellent communication and presentation skills.
The incumbent must also successfully complete:
 A satisfactory criminal records check as a condition of their hire.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands:
 Most of the incumbent’s time is spent working in an office setting, performing
general office duties or out in public networking with current and potential customers.
 Subject to operational demands, the incumbent may be expected to work evenings
and weekends rescheduling regular hours to cover this time.
Environmental Demands:
 Environmental demands are those typically associated with an office position.
Periodic travel will be required which may result in exposure to the extremes of our
Northern climate.

Sensory Demands:
 Normal office environment.
 Sporting environment.
Mental Demands:
 There is potential for multiple projects to be ongoing all requiring attention and
concentration. Multi-tasking may be required for long periods of time.
 This position can typically receive direction from several different sources resulting
in potentially stressful situations.
In case of termination by either party, a minimum of two months’ notice will be provided.
