meet people’s needs
Fossil fuel – fuel that forms from decayed organisms over a long period of time
Soil – material made of tiny pieces of rocks and decaying matter, contains nutrients
for plant growth
Waste Stream – the flow of waste from disposal to final resting place
Recycling – to reuse a resource to make something new
Pollution – anything in the environment that can harm living things or damage
natural resources
Conservation – the wise use and protection of natural resources
Contour Plowing – planting rows of crops on the sides of hills following the lay
of the land to prevent soil erosion
Strip cropping – planting strips of thick grass or clover between crops to prevent
soil erosion

descriptions of the misuse and effect. Law or agency is correct.
The response shows an understanding of the importance and misuse of natural
resources. There are 3 items described but the description lacks details or contains
minor errors or misconceptions. The law or agency is incorrect or omitted.
The response shows limited understanding of the importance or misuse of natural
resources. There are at least 3 items chosen, however the description stated
reveals major misconceptions , errors or omissions, as well as incorrect law and
agency response.
