Imperialism PROJECT: Movie Poster & PLOT SUMMARY Since the early days of movies, studios have printed posters to advertise their films. These posters often feature the names and photographs of the main actors, the film title in large lettering, and may also include a tagline, the name of the director, names of characters, the release date, etc. It is also common for movie posters to use persuasive propaganda techniques to convince people to see the movie. Many of today’s moviegoers are also interested in reading a summary of a film’s plot before spending their time and money to see a film. The objective of a plot summary is to condense the plot of a 2 hour movie into a short, interesting synopsis that will make people want to see the movie. To demonstrate your understanding of Imperialism, you will generate an idea for a movie about Imperialism in Africa, the Middle East, India, or Asia. You will create a persuasive poster to promote the movie, and write a plot summary to provide a written review of the main ideas of Imperialism that would be included in the plot. Assignment Guidelines: Movie Poster Plot Summary Common components of a movie poster: o Movie title (large lettering) o Tagline o Acting credits (important people) o Production credits [director, producer, writer (you!), studio, soundtrack/music, website, etc.] o Illustration/picture o Release date (or “coming soon”) o Rating A least 1 propaganda technique that will motivate people to see your movie Neat, colorful, demonstrates your best work If you choose, you may print (from the internet) one image to use on your poster OR the title & other text to be used on your poster. (Not both) Paragraph 1: Explain what the movie is about and describe the key characters of the film Paragraph 2: Describe the major events of the movie in a plot summary which weaves in each of the following concepts: o A brief explanation of imperialism and what motivated it o How the native people in Africa/Middle East/India/Asia would have felt about imperialism o Both positive and negative outcomes of imperialism Paragraph 3: Name and explain the propaganda technique(s) you used in your poster.
